Where is everybody? There's only this one asian waitress (Claudia from the ice cream shop?), the new owner lady behind the grill, and me.
Wow. What'll I do? Even the paintings are different. Still horrible, but different.
These ladies seem nice enough to me. Without checking to see if the prices went up, I ask, "May I please have a Big Over Medium, Coffee, and a Large OJ? Thank you."
That was quick. Looks the same. The potatoes are a little undercooked and a bit greasier, but it's all good.
"'Is everything okay here, sir?"
"Yes, everything's just fine, thanks again." Leave me the fuck alone! Who ARE you?
I'm still hungry. "Yes, may I please have also the Hot Apple Pie a la mode?"
"A la..."
Suddenly I feel myself smiling for the first time all day. "Hot Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream on top?"
"Okay, that'll be just a minute". She rushed to the back to find the new owner lady.
Just getting used to the eery silence when a furious discussion breaks out from the back.
Where's the fucking PAPER? GOD DAMMIT! The new owner lady appears behind me.
"Did you want your pie hot?"
"Yes, please".
"Oh, okay!"
"Thank you very much." She rushes back. A distant fury of discussion resumes. What the FUCK, OVER?
The asian waitress from the ice cream shop reappears. "You want pie heated? With cold ice cream on top?"
"Yes, please. Thanks very much." Really big smile, or not.
"Okay, sorry, just ONE minute".
Finally, the exact same dessert I'm familiar with arrives, and is very good. Then the bill, exactly what I'm used to.
My coffee cup has been empty for over half an hour. |
