Has Hell frozen over?
After many years, Chris is throwing in the short-order towel! He's old, he's tired, and Swift's is SOLD!
What will happen to macho monikers like Jimmy's Pancakes, Philly Chris Style, Mike's and Jack's Burrito?
Everything just went smoke-free. How much is my greasy spoon really going to change? Rumor is it's going to get spicy! The 'tude. Not the food.
Most employees quit rather than suffer re-applying for their same jobs. Veteran waitress Theresa hasn't heard! I can hear her bitching now! God bless her.
I haven't had the displeasure of meeting the new owner yet, but nobody's happy with her! During the transition, I've personally observed the ample time she's had to observe and LEARN from the current staff.
Today she hovered over veteran cook Big Pablo, telling him how to make a steak. In a 40-year-old steakhouse! I won't be surprised to miss Pablo's or anyone else's mad skills.
For my personal survival and your entertainment I look forward to meeting and reminding the new owner, assuming her food is edible, of her copious free time to sit and watch my eating habits.
With any luck she'll pay as much attention to me as the years I invested in casual listening to former staff and customers. I'm not proud of any of it. Well, not since the day I got busted. |

I'll ask her politely, "It's your food, your restaurant. I'm just a paying customer. How would YOU prefer I eat this? Should you care how I eat, too?"
For now and all time, here's to relishing memories and old relishes to try and remember. |
