Piper Gig

Superscape
were supporting Thief at Piper. When we arrived there
was no sound engineer. It turned out that the manager
with whom Thief had booked the gig 2 months ago had
left last week for another job and had neglected to
tell the sound engineer he was required. So, we had the
odd situation of an excellent PA, but no sound engineer
and no mics. The worst thing was that the sound
engineer was actually playing pool in the venue, but
wouldn't help us out because he didn't know he was
needed and had arranged work elsewhere that night.
So, we got close to pulling the gig. But luckily Thief had positive mental attitude and convinced us we should soldier on. So, we managed to cadge two vocal mics and a bodge it all together ourselves with a crappy little vocal PA and no sound engineer, plus no mics for the bass, drums or guitars. For them we just had to hope the amps would be loud enough.
Anywhow, after much stress, in the end it wasn't a bad night! There were about 70 people there, the sound was not perfect, but just about OK, and all the acts played well and were well received. A good prelude to Saturday at Adelphi hopefully!

September Blog

Hello
everyone,
Well here's my blog for September, I know that you are all nervous with anticpation.
This month we did a gig. We hadn't done one in ages, and it was our first with our new drummer Rob Burton, so it really was nice to be back. Thanks to all who came down, and I hope to see you at the next one on Friday October 7th at Adelphi. Also, cheers to the Landaus and Ade Webb, both of whom played great sets.
Also, England won the Ashes! Yay! I used to think that cricket was about as interesting and entertaining as a James Blunt song, but after the summer's excitement I am now a convert to the cricketing cause. In other sporting news, Hull FC won the Challenge Cup! As an adopted son of Hull I salute them. It'd probably get me hung back home in Wigan though!
This month I am mostly listening to:
Sigur Ros - 'Takk'
Elbow - 'Leaders of the Free World'
Super Furry Animals - 'Love Kraft'
I've also just started reading 'News from No Man's Land' by John Simpson.
That's all for now. Come to the Adelphi gig on 7th October!

Matt
the bass player here, stuff that's good in my stereo at
the moment:
Stephen Fretwell: Magpie
The Magic Numbers: The Magic Numbers
A rather spelndid Mogwai compilation courtesy of Superscape's Paul
Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland
The White Stripes: Blue Orchid
I've also just read 'The Unlimited Dream Company' by JG Ballard. As hallucinogenic as reading gets. Fantastic.
