More Adelphi Live Tracks
22/10/05 17:18
Here are some more live tracks for you, recorded
at the Adelphi.
Mote
We did this track as an encore at the gig. I think it's always better live than on the studio recording - an it's nice to have our traditional end-of-gig instrument thrashing included!
What Have You Done?
One of our new tracks - quite a mellow one for us. We hope to be doing a studio version of this pretty soon.
Seconds
We've recorded this before, but never got round to finishing it so I guess this is the most definitive recording of this one that we have.

Adelphi Live Recordings
01/10/05 18:48
Hi! As some of you might know, we played a low key gig at The Adelphi recently. The main reason was to try out some new material. Also, we've got a new line-up which was untested live so it was a good chance to give it a test drive in a friendly environment.
What most of you won't know is that we were recording the gig. We've got a lot of work to do on the recordings before they're ready for public consumption - mixing and eq-ing and the like. Still, it's sounding pretty good so we thought we'd let you have a sneak preview of two tracks. These are works in progress. See what you think;
Waiting for Leon
Our traditional opening track, and the first track ever played live with our new line-up. A little piece of history.
Promises, Promises
One of the new ones with a few surprises in it. We have trouble not laughing when we play this and that's usually a good sign.
Newer Stuff

We're well overdue for a recording session, and
one IS on the cards - we promise. In the meantime,
here's some of our more recent recordings.
Skeletons (Live at the BBC)
Another one that I think is pretty self explanatory. This version was recorded live at the BBC. The track often appears early in our live set, it gets things off to a good start.
Save Yourself (Live at the BBC)
A fine Superscape work song. Check out the lyric section of this site for more details.
Save Yourself (Studio version)
As above, recorded at Fairview Studios.
Minotaur (Studio version)
Another huge swaggering one with a bit of an odd structure. Kind of works though and really shines when we play it live.
Mote
Recorded in a tiny garage, this somehow manages to sound a lot bigger. Some people think this is a love song... come on, folks, pay attention! One of my favorite live moments was when the audience sang this back to us at The Adelphi, Hull so loud we could hardly hear Pik's vocals. A shivery moment.
Old Stuff
01/08/05 19:53
Here's a selection of oldies that are no longer
in our live set. You can click the song's title to
hear the track, or you can download them if you
like. Comments are from Rob Stott (Guitar).
Escape Pod
This is probably the first song that was a proper Superscape song. The backwards reverb before the choruses was a piece of studio wizardy from "Tall" Paul Richardson who was out producer back in these days. Nowadays Paul is one of the 'scape's two guitarists.
Longbrain
This song features dual vocals from Pik and Leon. This was a studio only track since we only very rarely have a sax player available, and it's kind of pointless without one. All the same, it's one of my favorites.
No Reply
No-one liked this song except me! I stand by it, I still think it's a good 'un... and I'm still on my own!
Calm Down
Another very early track, from our second ever demo. I think it's self explanatory really and sums up perfectly where some of us were at when it was recorded. That's important in a track, I think.
Sonar
Now and again this still makes an appearance live. We realised much too late (after we'd been playing it for years) that it sounds a lot like a track by another band. A genuine co-incidence... we were gutted!
Oscar One Nine
Oscar One Nine is the call sign of our local police helicopter, well, actually it's Oscar NINE nine, but we misheard. That's all you need to know.
Repeat To Fade
This was recorded on a four track at The Warren in Hull. For anyone who knows about this - there was a lot of track bouncing and nail biting involved. Despite that, this is still one of my favorite Superscape tracks. I guess anyone who works a nine to five won't need me to explain this one to them - the first in a series of Superscape work-songs.
For King Smunk
We find this song tremendously funny. I wanted to record a song without using any instruments. In the end I relented and let Rob Moore play a bass. There are no other instruments on this track. There are however, clock radios, hoovers, polystyrene blocks, chairs... For extra fun, try playing it backwards.
Will I Dream?
A beautiful song, I think. Mainly a song for Charlotte, with a few other references.
Poisoned
Not much to say about this one. Kind of sinister.
Monolith
A monster. An epic. Not much you can say about this one. Just get the volume up loud, okay?
