Okay, two weeks and we're in for a quick update of November status.

The bulk of my time lately is taken up with working on a cookbook I've promised to design and, essentially, edit as a fund-raiser for my wife's school. Many of the teachers and staff members have submitted recipes for the cookbook and I'm using the same skills and equipment I would on the Airship 27 books to put it together. Surprisingly it's a bit tougher work, as we did not give the contributors a guideline on how to submit their recipes and I'm having to re-write some of them to fit the prevalent style. And then there's the differences in how they indicate measurements (there are a number of different way they represent "cup" for example). I hope to have the book done in a few days and be back on other projects. Once I have it near completion I'll post a page or two here to show what I've been up to.

In the meantime I have gotten a couple more pages of Robyn of Sherwood completed and they should appear below this paragraph. Airship 27 has ended its releases for 2009, but there are still a few books in the pipeline that I'll be working on as time permits to have them ready for the kickoff of 2010. Also in the offing is a CAPTAIN HAZZARD comic that I'll be publishing through my REDBUD STUDIO comics production company in addition to another pulp associated book that I'll be inking and lettering which we originally planned to come out from REDBUD via the Ka-Blam print-on-demand printer/distributor but may come from a traditional comics publisher instead. As usual I'll keep you all up to date on these and other happenings at the Davis studio.

Rachel is, as usual, in the Fall play at her high school. Next weekend is the performance, and if I can get decent photos I'll post some here. It's difficult to do so with not being able to use a flash and the spotlights being so dim in the auditorium, but I'll see what I can do.

Breaking tradition here, I'm actually updating in less than a month or even two weeks! Kidding aside, I have some pages I didn't get to in my last update that I thought I'd include here since it is "All Saint's Day" and the day after Halloween. These pages will appear in a Zombiie anthology later in November and I'll have an announcement when I know exactly when they'll be available. These pages are being colored too, so this will be the first non-web color work since the mid 1990's. Here's the "silent"" version of "Deadline."

Okay. It's been far too long between updates. I've been pretty busy with work at the home studio as well as doing some work on maps for possible new routes at the day job with Columbia Transit. I'll dig through the growing pile of completed stuff to see what I can post here for your amusement and post it below with some commentary...

Since I last posted here two books have come out of the Airship 27 wing of the studio. First up was LANCE STAR•SKY RANGER. I've posted illustrations from this book previously, but here's the final, published cover:

Also finished up in the month of October is the final book from Airship 27 for 2009, Season of Madness. Below is the finalized cover.

Season of Madness cvr

Cover of SEASON OF MADNESS

SEASON OF MADNESS. When a group of men and women throughout London begin exhibiting strange psychotic behavior, Dr. John Seward, from the Dracula affair, is brought into the case. Faced with a mystery beyond his realm of experiences, he turns to Sherlock Holmes' trusted companion, Dr. Watson, for help. Together these two men of science must uncover the riddle behind a white powder drug with the ability to drive people mad before the entire population is infected. Also includes a special bonus story, "The Electric Shark", starring Her Majesty's Secret Agent, Quincy Harker. Illustrations by Pedro Cruz, cover by Rob Davis and Shane Evans. Coming off the drawing table the month of October were three more pages on ROBYN OF SHERWOOD. A fourth page for part 3 of the four part story (page one was seen in September's last posting) is on the drawing table now awaiting some finishing inks. I'll have that page for you to peek at next time. Here are the three pages:

On the home front, Rachel's high school band marched in the University of Missouri Homecoming Parade last weekend. The band itself didn't win any trophies, but Rachel brought one home for "Best Drum Major" for her band's class! Below are a few slightly unfocused photos from the parade:

And taking up a great deal of time in October is the presentation maps for proposed re-routing of every Transit route for Columbia Transit (my "day job"). The hope with these new routes is that timing now roughly destroyed by heavier traffic and growth in Columbia will put the routes back on schedule. Here's a sample of the more than a dozen maps I created for them:

Here's a city-wide look at the weekday routes.

Here's a look at the 101 (Orange) North route as proposed.

Finally, as a fund-raiser for the Catholic School my wife teaches at and my son attends I'm taking on design of a recipe book! I'm hoping to have it done before Thanksgiving for purchase during the holiday season and printed on-demand at Lulu. As always I'll let you know as these and other projects progress.
