Greetings again. Life moves forward and so does the studio work. Not all is available to share yet, as there are some items I've worked on the last couple of weeks that lose their "freshness" if I post them here befoe their physical publication. One such item from a few weeks ago just got its printing, so I can share here, finally.

My association with writer Jack Curtin led me to an illustration of one of his beer-related articles in ALE STREET NEWS before Christmas. Check the archives for December '09 (scroll down to Thursday, Dec. 3rd) for the Watson and Holmes beer/ale tasting illustration. Apparently I so impressed the editor of ASN that he commissioned me to do the cover of the very next issue. What came of that job is seen below (the illustration is a link to the publication online):

The long and winding road of Craft brewing.

As with most such work there was qute a bit of back and forth since my knowledge of beer and ale and its finer points are outside my experience (beer does nasty things to my digestion, sadly). This project, and another that is under wraps until March that came my way via Jack, has increased my knowledge of micro-brewing considerably, though I now know there's much more I DON'T know. :)

Speaking of Jack Curtin my association with him dates back to the old CompuServe days of the early internet in the 1990's. From 1999 he and I did a weekly political cartoon puncturing "Dubya" and the political scene (yeah, we punished Dems when we thought they were/are being nitwits, too). Those cartoons are archived somewhere in Jack's byzantine web presence for those with an interest in such things. Some of the later cartoons are even animated, which was a great deal of fun, but takes up entirely too much studio time these days. That said, Jack and I still do the occasional cartoon these days. The latest involves Jack's houseguest of the last year and "Snowmageddon" that has dumped on his hometown of Philadelphia:

On the comic book front- Mr. Jigsaw #6 is all ready to go as soon as our cover comes in (this next week?) as the interior is all scanned in and laid out. ROBYN OF SHERWOOD is also moving forward. We're nearly halfway through the last 24 pages to re-draw and it will be ready to send off to the letterer and whatever publisher writer Paul Storrie finds for it. Here's the latest page:

With some luck this week will also mark the debut of the latest Airship 27 book: ROBIN HOOD•KING OF SHERWOOD with illustrations and design by Rob Davis with what looks like from the pencil sketch a kick-butt cover from comics artist/painter Mike Manley. Sift back through the archives link below to see illustrations from that book. I'll show you that cover and have a link for the book as soon as it's available. If you're a fan of the Robin Hood mythos as I am you'll love this book. Writer I.A. Watson has rendered an excellent modern re-telling of the story of Robin of Loxley.

Robin Hood- after Mike Manley

Well, that's all I have for now. I'll be inking up another page of ROBYN today, and getting prepared for the predicted dumping of snow overnight, though nothing like the Mid-Atlantic coast got the last few days. Next time I may even have an announcement about the long-awaited cookbook I've been designing (editing of the book has been sporadic as Theresa has been busy with a number of issues at her school and with the kids' activities)!

More as it develops...
