Ian has been psychologist since 1984, is a registered secondary and primary teacher, has a specialist qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language, a chartered member of the Australian Institute of Human Resources, and after many years of experience as a counselling, organisational and educational psychologist, has become highly skilled in psychological and intellectual assessment (including IQ testing, memory, personality, and vocational/career interest) and in counselling/therapy.

When Ian commenced his private practice in Melbourne many years ago, during that time, he began his search for more effective ways to assist his clients find solutions in individual and couples therapy. Having already completed advanced training in counselling, therapy, and grief and bereavement, he then began learning from Rob McNeilly and Peter Thorneycroft at the CET in Melbourne between 1993 and 1995, completing both the solutions focussed counselling and solutions oriented hypnosis courses. He found both approaches revitalised his own practice and the outcomes realised for the clients.

Then and now, after almost 15 years of clinical work, he finds the Ericksonian approach to therapy even more relevant, enlivening and effective for a wide range of problems that clients are facing. This approach allows him to work skilfully, with all of his clients, with a gentle compassionate and sincere presence. He seeks to ‘be there’ with the client, so that together, they can search for meaningful and lasting solutions and change.

Over the years Ian has found that he has worked well with clients seeking support and solutions for stress and anxiety, sleep enhancement, depression, career confusion and work stress, grief and loss and improving relationships with self and others.

He continues his association with CET, through intensive advanced training and ongoing professional contact with Rob McNeilly. This support and the general support of the CET practitioner community is indispensable to Ian, for he believes that only by accessing ongoing support and encouragement in his own professional and personal life can he be most effective in helping clients.

He continues his professional development at The University of Melbourne in a Doctoral Programme researching the clinical impact of different psychological approaches to leadership development.

Ian has private practices in Melbourne – in the CBD, and in the western Suburbs.
