of Effective Therapy [CET] with Dr Gabrielle Peacock or Dr
Rob McNeilly.
All counsellors will get stuck with a difficult or complex
client from time to time, and all can benefit from some
additional input. Simply referring on rarely provides
adequate feedback for learning and can even contribute to a
sense of isolation, overload and burnout over time.
For some time we have offered students of our programmes
the possibility to bring a client to one of us, observe the
session and then have a supervision conversation. We are
impressed with the benefits for the client and for the
practitioner, and for the first time we are offering this
service more widely.
Too often supervision is limited because the client is
talked about when they are not there and counsellors report
that they want to have their skills enhanced! Professional
development will be an important part of any serious
counsellor's ongoing learning.
Many clients benefit from this collaboration between their
case worker, counsellor and consultant practitioner, and if
the client agrees, the session can be videotaped for future
reflection and learning.
This is a rare opportunity to assist a client who is stuck
and at the same time provide an opportunity for you to
learn directly with experienced practitioners who also
teach this approach locally, nationally and
internationally.
Gabrielle or Rob will have a clinical session with your
client, couple or family, in your presence so that new
possibilities for both you and your client are experienced,
not merely discussed.
