Once upon a time I was struggling with a business problem I just couldn't seem to find my way out of. I was frustrated, confused, and lost.
Along comes Bill, a mentor.
Bill asks me over the phone, "Do you have a magazine laying around?" "Yea." Bill says, "Open it to any page - now take the magazine and put it up against your face."
I do.
"What do you see" he ask. "Uh, a few blurry words and pictures."
Then Bill tells me to pull it a foot and a half away from my face.
"Now what can you see?" I started reading the magazine ad to him.
"Here's what's wrong." He said, "You're too close to the problem to be able to see it fully - you need to get some distance away from this problem to understand it."
Great advice.
Is there a problem that you need to get some distance from?
