Internet Assignment

Periodically throughout the semester I will send you messages about weekly assignments, grade reports, or special announcements by e-mail. To do so I need an e-mail address for you. Your assignment is to send an e-mail message to me introducing yourself and which section number you are in. Tell me what your major is, why you are taking this class, and what your career plans are. You might also wish to share with me whether or not English is your first language (the one you learned at home before starting school). This will help me to help you when assessing your work. I will capture the address you send the message from and use it throughout the semester to contact you. Send copies of your message to any backup e-mail addresses you would like me to send to so that I can capture them too.

If you already have an e-mail address you like to use, send your message from it. If you do not already have an e-mail address you have several options:

  1. Use the address of a relative or friend (not recommended).
  2. The college will issue you an e-mail address (not recommended).
  3. Sign up for a free e-mail address through the World Wide Web from a service such as Yahoo, Hotmail, or gMail.(recommended).

No. 1 is not recommended because your friend or relative may not pass on messages to you and will have access your grades.

No. 2 is not recommended because the school e-mail system is notoriously unreliable.

No. 3 is recommended for several reasons:

To create a Yahoo or Hotmail account you simply use the computer to access the Yahoo (www.yahoo.com) or Hotmail (www.hotmail.com) web sites and follow directions for signing up for an e-mail account. You will be asked to fill out a survey, create a unique screen name (something no one else in the world using that service has chosen) and a password.

Once you have created an account, send a message to me at the following address:

DrRHuber@aol.com

Put the following in the Subject Line:

TH101DE -- Your Last Name, First Name -- H-Internet

As soon as I receive the message I will send you a message back confirming receipt. When you send in your homework assignments by e-mail I will usually respond within 24 hours of the due date. If you do not receive a confirmation within a day or so of the due date assume that I have not received it.

This assignment must be completed by the end of the first week of classes.
