Extra Credit - NPR's American Stages

Listen to episodes of National Public Radio's (NPR) eight-part series entitled American Stages and take short quizzes on the material. Passwords to access quizzes are the same as for online chapter quizzes.

Here are two ways you can listen to the material:

  1. Go to the www.npr.org and listen to the audio stream of an episode.
  2. Download the mp3 file of an episode from our class download page and listen on your computer or iPod. (You probably shouldn't attempt this unless you have a broadband connection since the files are about 11MBs and can take around 4 minutes to download even with DSL or Cable modems.)

    Note: Listening to streaming audio from the NPR website requires RealAudio’s free RealPlayer which may already be on your computer. Listening to the downloaded mp3 file on your computer requires such free players as iTunes, RealAudio’s RealPlayer, or Microsoft’s Windows Media Player. It can played on an iPod or any other portable mp3 player just like a music file.

You may listen to any or all of the eight episodes, but you are still subject to the 6 point limit on extra credit. Once you have accumulated 6 points I stop recording any further extra credit.

Unlike our chapter quizzes you will not be receiving an automatic e-mail response with your score and the correct answers. This is to discourage the sharing of answers. I will send you an e-mail within a few days acknowledging receipt of your quiz and telling you what your score was.
