The event format for the 2007 Corporate Challenge Against Prostate Cancer is the Italian Sprint. In this event, teams of four riders (men or women) race against the clock for four (4) laps of the velodrome, a total of 1,000 meters on the Encino and ADT Center velodromes 250 meter oval tracks. The lead rider peels off after each lap, until there is only one rider racing at the end. The total distance for the entire team is four laps, 1,000 meters.
This is bicycle racing in its purest form and is a great team building and spectator event. There is plenty of free seating for corporate employees, families and friends at both velodromes.
November 10th is structured as a fun event. Click the image below to download a registration form.
Date and locations ADT Velodrome, November 10, 2007
There are multiple team categories:
4 men with combined ages of 180 years or less
4 men with combined ages of 181 years or more
4 women with combined ages of 140 years or less
4 women with combined ages of 141 years or more
Mixed teams are welcome, as are junior riders.
The donation entry fee* for each team is $500. The fee includes: 1) all license fees and insurance, 2) the right to record the event for corporate PR purposes, 3) track qualification if needed, 4) and maybe, just maybe, the right for your corporation to hold one of the four corporate trophies for the next 12 months.
Corporations can enter as many teams as they wish. Teams can ride track bikes (no gears) or road or time trial bikes, so long as the entire team uses the same type of bicycle, and each rider has qualified to ride the track on a track bicycle (don't worry, it's easy and FUN).
* For a $2,000 donation, Prostate Cancer Prevention Project USA Cycling-certified coaches will work with the human relations department at your corporation or organization to create and implement an annual incentive-based wellness program.
Each of these events is a USA Cycling permitted "fun ride" event, and does not count toward any USA cycling or other competitive program.
To participate, just take these simple steps:
1 - Find four people that are competitive and love to have fun (or just the latter).
2 - Register your team along with the team's entry fee.**
3 - Contact Robert Hess (Robert.Hess@ProstateCancerAwarenessProject.org) to arrange for your track riding qualification training.
4 - Go through the Italian sprint training with former world and national champion Gil Hatton.
5 - Practice at one of the velodromes.
6 - Compete at Encino on October 21st or the ADT Center velodrome on November 10th, or both!
7 - Maybe take your category trophy back to your company for the year.
Once your team is track qualified, there are open training times and structured training classes at the both the ADT and Encino velodromes. See LAvelodrome.org and Encinovelodrome.org for training times and classes and competitions. Corporate teams can rent the velodrome for private training sessions.
