Birthdaybook 5.2 has has several important bug fixes. The age now appears correctly in the reminder window. Email messages now subjects now show either "Birthday" or "Anniversary" in the subject filed. There is now a button in the list and reminder windows that switches the view between them and updates the reminder window without having to quit Birthdaybook. There is now a complete French translation including Help Pages and a manual, available at the author's website..


For users with OS10.3X, Panther, the refresh buttons are gone from the list window. This was an outdated feature. They can still edit the entries in the list window but they will only refresh after relaunch. Table editing for Tiger and Leopard are the same.

Issues with Birthdaybook and OS10.2.X:

There are some problems with OS older than 10.3X. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test Bbook on OS 10.2X and there are some problems there. The worst seems to be that preferences won't hold when you make changes. You have to live with the defaults (or upgrade to Tiger- it's worth it!). Hopefully I can get to these troubles and fix them fairly soon. Sorry!

On OS 10.3X and 10.4X:

Note: Some users of version 3.1 will launch Birthdaybook and not see the reminder window. This has been fixed in version 3.2. Also you can now print a calendar in Text Edit without an error asking for MS Word (this can be fixed also by choosing Text Edit when asked for Word!)

Some issues regarding the daily reminder scripts.

First: These scripts will not work properly if you have moved or altered them. They must reside in the Script files folder in the Birthdaybook folder to work properly

1. Rarely, the daily reminder scripts have failed for some unknown reason. The best solution is to download a fresh Script files folder from the download page and replace it in the Birthdaybook folder and trash the old one.

2.If you are running the dailyreminder script in Background but don't know if it is working: Open Acivity Vierwer app (Utilities folder) and open the viewer window- there you will see all open applications running and should see "dailyreminderb" listed. To quit the script, select it in the list and press Quit button at top.

Preferences window crashes

Occasionally, Birthdaybook crashes after setting preferences and pressing "OK". Usually after changing Transparency. If this happens, quit birthdaybook. Relaunch and try again. Just a harmless glitch...
