Blossoming Independence

Aidan has managed to surprise us a couple of times this weekend with a question and his independent nature.

First, Karin was home with Aidan on Friday. He's been a bit out of sorts, and we're pretty sure he's been sick and under the weather. Despite his talkative nature, he wasn't able to tell us what was wrong, and he hasn't been running a temperature, so all we've really been able to do is to comfort him.

Anyway, Karin needed to do some grocery shopping. Here's how the conversation went.

Mom, "Aidan do you want to go to the store?"
Aidan, "No, thank you, mom."
Mom, "Aidan, do you want to go to the store and look for cones?" (That would be ice-cream cones, an Aidan favorite.)
Aidan, "No, thank you, mom."
Mom, "Aidan, we need grapes. Do you want to pick out the grapes?"
Aidan, "No, thank you, mom."
Mom, "Aidan, I need to go to the store. Let's get ready to go."
Aidan, "I'll stay home, Mom." This was complete with the you-go-but-I'm-not-in-the-mood tone.

Later we actually went to the store. While Karin was checking out, Aidan and I were at the front of the store people watching. A woman with a baby walked by and Aidan asked

"Where do babies come from?"
A little shocked, I replied, "Mommies."
