The Auxiliary Cat

So, apparently, we've been semi-adopted by another cat. The cat's name is Shooter and he belongs to a family that lives on the street behind ours. However, it seems like he lives with us.

About a year ago, Shooter, who is all black, began showing up at our house and eating the food we'd left out for our cat, Topper, who also adopted us about four years ago. Shooter seemed to believe that he belonged in our house and we spent several months doing a silly little dance every time we opened the door to try and keep Shooter out of the house.

Eventually, we gave up and let the cat in. Now he spends most of his days at our house and any number of nights here as well. We've talked to his owners and they're cool about it, although the kids miss their cat. We've tried to keep Shooter at his actual owners' house, but it just doesn't work.

Oh, yeah. Shooter thinks he's a parrot. Every time I bend down to pet him, he leaps onto my shoulders. Then he'll stay there, stretched out from right to left, with his head dangling down over my left shoulder. He will stay there as long as I'll let him.
