'Bin Ladin Preparing to Hijack US Aircraft and Other Attacks'I don't mean to shift or appoint blame, but only
to shed light on the facts as they have been discovered.
It's amazing what you can find if you take the
time to actually read things like the "definitive" 9/11 Commission final
report. This excerpt, for instance, contrasts with many of the news
and blog reports on that infamous August 6, 2001 memo entitled
'Bin Laden determined to attack inside the U.S.'
Pages 128-129 of the report read: On Friday, December 4, 1998, the CIA included an article in the Presiden- tial Daily Brief describing intelligence, received from a friendly government, about a threatened hijacking in the United States. This article was declassified at our request. The following is the text of an item from the Presidential Daily Brief received by President William J. Clinton on December 4,1998. ... SUBJECT: Bin Ladin Preparing to Hijack US Aircraft and Other Attacks 1. Reporting [—] suggests Bin Ladin and his allies are preparing for attacks in the US, including an aircraft hijacking to obtain the release of Shaykh ‘Umar ‘Abd al-Rahman, Ramzi Yousef, and Muhammad Sadiq ‘Awda. ... 2. Some members of the Bin Ladin network have received hijack train- ing, according to various sources, but no group directly tied to Bin Ladin’s al-Qa’ida organization has ever carried out an aircraft hijacking.Bin Ladin could be weighing other types of operations against US aircraft. ... Interesting, ain't it? I'll be reading some more of this vaunted document and post any other "discoveries." Posted: Sun - October 30, 2005 at 10:38 PM |
