2002 ~ 2003 ~ current
Jan. ~ Feb. ~ April ~ May ~ June ~ July ~ August

August 12/04
No time to write a news post today, as I fly to Montréal this evening! :D
*does happy dance*

New Stuff:
~
Photos- Niagara Falls & a couple of other nearby tourist spots Matt & I visited with his family while in Ontario last May. All taken with my manual camera.

listening: Matthew Good Band- 'Load Me Up'
reading: Guy Gavriel Kay- A Song for Arbonne

i'm frantic, so load me up

August 9/04
Three more sleeps 'til I fly to Montréal! :D :D :D

New Stuff:
~
Photos- More Classic Cars... these photos are also from the New Westminster Show & Shine, but were taken using my manual camera. Odd angles and reflections are fun!
~ Last week's update included photos from my trip to Mountain View Cemetery; I didn't send out an update email so if you missed them you can go here.
~ I'm working on a photo blog, where I plan to post a picture and a short description or anecdote every other day... we'll see how well that works. ;) Not much to see there right now; I am still working on the layout and getting the hang of a new publishing system, but if you want you can sneak a peek here.

listening: Ani DiFranco- 'Joyful Girl (Peace And Love Mix)'
reading: Guy Gavriel Kay- The Lions of Al-Rassan

i do it 'cause i learned it from you

August 3/04
Whatever news there is for this week can be found in my journal, I'm feeling too lazy to re-write it here. ^^

New Stuff:
~
Photos- I finally have all my Cemetery pictures scanned in... which should make a lot of you happy. For some reason people kept asking me when they would be done- morbid curiosity? ;) Anyway, there they are- taken at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, between rounds of badminton. ^^

I would post more stuff, but I want to draw instead. So... nyah.

listening: Radiohead- 'Fog (Again) [live]'

could you go back?

July 21/04
Well, it hasn't rained here since my last post... for Vancouver, this is quite odd. It's not that we're complaining, we love the sun, really!
It's just that, well, temperatures are a wee bit on the "too hot" side, and plants are starting to die, and there's those pesky fires further inland that could really use some water... So anytime you clouds hiding up there somewhere off the coast of Vancouver Island want to head on over and dump some rain on us for a couple of days, that'd be just super. okaythankyou!

New Stuff:
~ You could vote for one of my photos at i-gizmo this week, if you were so inclined. ^_^ (my username there is "Riss")
~ Lots of new
Photos, 87 of them to be exact, from the Show & Shine in New West on July 11th.
I'm trying out a new way of posting really large exhibits, like this one, that's more dialup-friendly. You can view all of the images as small thumbnails, and then click on the ones you want to see fullsize. Or, you can also view them as a slideshow, and even leave comments about individual photos. Fun for all! Anyway, please have a look at them here, and let me know what you think. :)
~ In case you missed them, as I kind of, well, forgot to send out an update email again, there's new photos here as well. You can read last week's news post for info.

listening: Matthew Good Band- 'Flashdance II'
reading: Douglas Coupland- 'All Families Are Psychotic'

barely living but we're living large

July 10/04
We had a fun storm this afternoon- thunder and lightning and torrents of rain. Hmmm... I guess it is a sign that we have been having a dry summer if a Vancouverite gets excited by rain. ^_^
Anyway, since I am finished getting soaked trying to take photos outside, I figured it was time to dry off and post some new stuff for you.

New stuff:
~
Photos, of course. I was experimenting with the macro mode on my SLR & Matt's digital, and here are the results. The pictures are of flowers and the cat; the former because they stay still, and the latter because she kept striking poses.
~ No one seems to want any desktop pictures. Is this a blantant untruth? Let me know by emailing me your requests. ^^

listening: RJD2- 'Ghostwriter' (thanks, Katy!)
reading: Jonathan Safran Foer- 'Everything is Illuminated'
visiting: Rock, Paper, Saddam

July 4/04
Happy 4th of July to our neighbours to the south! ^_^

New stuff:
~ I have new
photos for you to see: a mix of film and digital shots from Commercial Drive. View, comment, etc., you know the drill. ^^

listening: Maroon 5- 'Songs About Jane'
reading: Douglas Adams- 'The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul'

this city's made us crazy and we must get out

June 20/04
Yes, I'm still here. I've been really busy, though... and the nice weather we've been having means I am not usually spending very much time at the computer. So, as you may have noticed, updates have been few and far between.

Alright, enough rambling. Here's the new stuff:
~
Photos: QE Spring #2- 27 pictures taken with my SLR camera; from the same day as the previous batch o' pics.
~ New
desktop picture: Dragonfly

listening: Matthew Good Band- 'Beautiful Midnight'
reading: Michael Ondaatje- 'The English Patient'

i miss new wave

May 10/04
More new Photos this time, also taken using Matt's handy little digital camera. These ones are from Queen Elizabeth Park, and they're mostly of, well, flowers. There's a lot more where these came from, so if flower pictures bore you, you may want to come back in a week or two. By then, I'll have pictures posted from when I invaded the privacy of a pretty little Vancouver neighbourhood. ^_^

Oh yes, my spam filter seems to have been rather overzealous the past couple of months, junking valid emails and such, so if it seems I have been ignoring you, that's probably the reason. If you've made any requests, please re-send them and I will get them up as soon as I can. Anyway, there's a new desktop picture ('Tomatoes' for Charlie!) available, if you are interested.

Fun news- one of my photos (Sea Stone) was chosen for display at the SFU Photography Club's annual show- woo hoo! If you get the chance, stop by the SFU library, Burnaby, and have a look (it opens June 9). There's a lot of skilled photographers in the group. (which reminds me, congrats to Katy, who also had a picture chosen!)

One last thing. Just out of curiosity, was anyone who is reading this my 2000th visitor? Drop me a line, 'tis a big milestone for me! ^^

listening: Red Hot Chili Peppers- 'By The Way'

universally speaking, i win in the long run

May 1/04
New Photos for you to see. Half were taken with Matt's digital camera, and half with my regular cam. I have a bunch more from my trip with Katrin to QE Park last week, so there will probably be another update in the next couple of days. Aren't you lucky? ;)

Anyway, off you go. As always, comments are welcome and encouraged.

February 29/04
Sorry, no new stuff today 'cause I was sick this week. I blame the evil midterm. :(
If you want, you can go check out the photos I picked (with your help) for my Local Photos submission (here). I'll probably send them in at the end of the week, so if you want to make any last-minute suggestions, now is the time!
Oh yes, Happy Birthday (on Monday) to Dave!

Photos: 'Very Small Cats'. An adorable family of cats from Kefalonia. The kittens were introduced to us as 'very small cats', not 'kittens'. Ah, Greece... ^_^
~ Thanks to everyone who responded to my request from last week, you all rock. I would love to hear from the rest of you as well, so if you have a moment, could you please have a look through my photo gallery and send me your suggestions? It would really mean a lot... :)

On Monday and Tuesday, it's...
Reading Break! Reading Break! Reading Break!
So what if it's only two days (unlike UBC and their 'reading week')- I still consider the rest of my week to be optional. :)

Okay, I have an important favour to ask you. For some time now, I've been considering submitting some of my pictures to a local stock photography site (Local Photos). They're good people- the photographers retain copyright of their images, and get to keep their slides/negatives too (this is not normal, but very cool). I can send them up to 20 of my 'best' images, and if they like what they see, they'll ask for more, and if they like those, maybe they'll take me on as a contributor. I can't stress how wonderfully amazing it would be if I was accepted... maybe I could pay the bills by doing something I love! (or at least recoup some of my developing costs... ~_^ )

So, here's the favour. I've collected a few images that stand out for me (you can see them here), but I want to know what you think. Is there a particular picture that you've always loved? Or one that is good from a technical point of view? Or maybe one that just screams 'postcard! magazine cover!' etc? E-mail me with the title, or post it in the guestbook, and I will add it to the collection. The only limitation is that it has to be local- this means Alberta, BC, and the Pacific Northwest. Considering this is where I live, it shouldn't be a problem. :)

Even if you've never signed the guestbook or even e-mailed me before, I still want to hear from you! If you keep returning to this site, there must be something about it that you like... ;)

This is my request to you, faithful visitors. Please take a few moments of your time and let me know what you think. Every suggestion helps!
Thanks!

Oh yes, congratulations to Katy for kicking ass in the Peak photo contest- Best 'City' Photo!
More photo news: The winning photos from the SFU International contest are now up in the SFU library, if you are able to go have a look. None of my pictures won first or second place, but I did get three honourable mentions...

What's New:
~ New
Photos: 'Cats in Black & White'; I've been meaning to post these for a very long time. They are possibly my favourite photos. Hmm... Oh yes, they are presented in a slightly different format than the other exhibits. It's something new I'm trying out, so let me know what you think.
~ Those desktop pictures I mentioned last time are now gone. There are, however, two new ones to console you: Lanterns and City Lights

What else... Oh yeah, back in the fall I entered a photo contest, and I actually won in one of the categories! *gasp* Anyway, if you want to read about the contest, you can go here: Hellenic Studies Photo Contest There's even some pictures here (I'm standing second from the right, with my photo- Best in Crete.) and here (you can practice your Greek with this one). Congratulations also to Alex (Best in Kefalonia) and Karen (Best Overall)!

Well, that took longer than I expected... it's my biggest photo exhibit yet, though, so perhaps it was worth the wait. We'll see.
Now, it's back to homework for me... I have a test this week on mollusks and fish cranial bones. Ooh, exciting.

What's New:
~ New
Photos: 'RainCity Night' taken during a Photo Club outing last fall
~ To free up some space, I will be deleting a few old desktop pictures before the next update. So if you want copies of Ripples, Screamin' Chicken, Big Red Ball, or Submerged, now's the time to go get them.

New Year, new update. It's coming, but it won't be here by tomorrow. I have eight hours of classes on Mondays, so I'll likely move the update day to later in the week. Check back in a day or two!
