| The historic cathedral of Mont St. Michel was on the other side of the Cherbourg peninsula from where the US forces landed on D-Day. It was not directly attacked and the German occupiers eventually abandoned it. The cathedral and town are a very popular tourist attraction in this region. | Monuments to the American forces that landed at Utah Beach. There are various monuments to different branches and units of the US forces that were involved (eg US Navy, Army, Coast Guard, Reserves, etc). |
