May is the month of Fundraisers

We have a fundraiser that I think you will all enjoy. In fact, it is one of those fundraisers that you can do at home in your pajamas if you want. Sounds too good to be true, huh. The first week in May will be the kickoff, and you will get a chance to contribute to next years activities, so be ready.

Do you want to donate to the North Bend High School football program? You can be part of the "Friends of the Family" by making contributions or by sponsoring an event during the year. What do you receive for your donation? We will give you a thank you letter, your name will appear on the Bulldog Donor page on our website and you will be recognized on our scoreboard during the season. (We know that some do not want recognition, so all of this would be up to you.) To donate

Okay, did you miss the letters regarding May's fundraiser? Here is the letter

What Makes a Winner?

John Wooden, one of the most successful basketball coaches of all time, gave the following to his players at the beginning of every season. I think every coach can use it. Our chance of having a successful team may be in direct proportion to the ability of each player and coach to live up to the following sets of suggestions:

1. Be a gentleman at all times.
2. Be a team player always.
3. Be on time whenever time is involved.
4. Be a good student in all subjects... not just football.
5. Be enthusiastic, industrious, dependable, loyal, and cooperative.
6. Be in the best possible condition...physically, mentally, and morally.
7. Earn the right to be proud and confident.
8. Keep emotions under control without losing fight or aggressiveness.
9. Work constantly to improve without becoming satisfied.
10. Acquire peace of mind by becoming the best that you are capable of becoming.
11. Never unfairly criticize or razz a teammate.
12. Never miss or be late for any class or appointment.
13. Never be selfish, jealous, envious, or egotistical.
14. Never expect favors.
15. Never waste time.
16. Never alibi or make excuses.
17. Never require repeated correction for the same mistake.
18. Never lose faith or patience.
19. Never grandstand, loaf, sulk, or boast.
20. Never have a reason to be sorry afterwards.

John Wooden once said that he used basketball to give out a list that he felt was actually for life. As coaches we hope that players will taste these things in football so that they will also be able to exhibit these things in life. We also hope by teaching these things we can become better coaches, teachers, and men. I could see this list hanging in the hall of businesses and homes, and the more they were followed, the more harmony would exist in work and family. Thanks to John Wooden for his contributions to basketball, but more importantly for his contributions to life.

“The player who gives his best is sure of success, while the player who gives less than his best has failed no matter the outcome.”

If you get enough lifts in, your Bulldog t-shirt will carry a special logo to show your dedication. The number of lifting days necessary will be revealed in July. Get in as many days as you can in the meantime so you will be ahead of the game.

Don't be alarmed
by an occasional recorded phone call from Coach Taylor. Often time there is a reason to get the word out quickly to players or parents about an upcoming event. Our first call will be going out in June. The message will be to inform athletes about summer events. Over 100 calls will go out to prospective football players.
