TAAP Program for North Bend Football
"Tapping Athletic and Academic Potential"
CHARACTER, INTELLECT, and ATHLETIC ABILITY...
...are the combined qualities that make a student a candidate for athletic participation at North Bend High School. Once those qualities have been demonstrated, the football staff will do everything possible to help the student athlete realize his academic and athletic hopes. The TAAP Program is designed to enhance the experience of the student-athlete in the high school setting. The primary goals are (1) to promote academic excellence and support the efforts of every student-athlete to consistently achieve high classroom marks, (2) to support the development of athletic potential with a commitment to sportsmanship and teamwork, (3) to enhance personal development by emphasizing the qualities of leadership, (4) to establish a commitment of service to others as a foundation for a balanced lifestyle and (5) to foster the development of a meaningful future by examining various post-high school choices.
Objectives
Academic Development
To further the intellectual development of student-athletes by providing:
- assessment and monitoring of academic progress
- programs and recognition that encourage academic excellence
Athletic Development
To have a football program that is committed to:
- teaching and promoting the qualities of good sportsmanship in all aspects of competition
- providing proper techniques that will provide the athletes with safe experiences in practices and games
- creating an atmosphere that enables students to maximize their potential both athletically and academically
- recruiting coaches who will serve as role models, teachers and leaders
Personal Development
To foster the personal development of the student-athlete by:
- providing instruction that encourages growth in decision making and goal setting
- establishing an environment that promotes a healthy, well-balanced life style
- supporting the development of self-discipline, values, and ethics which will foster a productive life after high school
- teaching leadership skills that fosters the development of values and goals that lead to a productive lifestyle
Future Decisions
- assessing interests and encouraging exploration of post high school opportunitites
- providing opportunities for summer jobs, especially in the student's career field
- assisting student-athletes in preparing for the job search and job interviews
Community Service
To encourage student-athletes to give service to others as foundation for a balanced lifestyle by:
- encouraging community service both as a team and as individuals
- training student-athletes to be good communicators outside the school setting
- helping students to thank those who are friends to the program (both verbally and in written forms)
- recognizing students for their community and school service
