Trojans1-1

We have a baby!! Keenan James Bayer, grandson of Coach Taylor (oh, and son of Aaron and Lisa Bayer) was born on Monday morning. He will get a page at least a large as the Dwight wedding, but for now I can give you just a small sample. Stay tuned for more photos in the next couple of days. Congratulations Coach Taylor (oh, and Lisa and Aaron, as well.)

Jamboree Scheduled- On Thursday, August 31, the Trojans will be traveling to North Valley to face the Knights, the SU Lancers and at least one other team in a full-contact jamboree. Right now it is slated as a varsity event only, but they are trying to gather up enough JV teams to include a JV jamboree as well. We will know more information later and will post it on the website.

Big Red Camp has great turnout!! Day one had 83 players at this year's Big Red Camp and the second day just fell short of the 100 mark at 96 players. This is the best turnout in three years and the fourth biggest day ever for the camp. The biggest camp day was in 1993 when 127 players showed up. Want to see some camp photos? Click here. Check Thursday's camp update for special recognition and more photos.

Kerry Dwight and Jen Meyers get married on July 8.
P7080228
Kerry and Jen are both Douglas graduates and "met" while coaching softball together at Douglas. Jennifer is just short of finishing her degree for teaching and Kerry is starting his fifth year at DHS. They were married at Steelhead run in Glide with Rick Taylor performing the ceremony. Many friends and family attended the affair which was followed by a wonderful reception. Kerry and Jennifer will spend the next couple of weeks in Mexico and then will be back to settle in for the school year. Kerry and family have spent the last few weeks remodeling the house where the couple will spend their first year of marriage. Congratulations Kerry and Jen!! Click here for some wedding photos.

Tyler Walker to participate in Shrine game.
P6100224
Tyler will be spending August 8 in Baker chasing down quarterbacks and running the ball up and down the field in the traditional East-West Shrine game for 3A players. The elite event brings together the best senior football players in the state for the annual showdown. Tyler may get time in at several positions. During his senior year, Tyler played QB and running back on offense and linebacker and line on the defense. A first team all-leaguer, Tyler combines quickness and a nose for the ball to give the opponents fits. We look forward to seeing Tyler tear it up in August. Think you might want to attend? Douglas High athlete Kevin Godfrey places first in Junior Olympic regional decathlon.
P5130024_1
Outstanding junior football player Kevin Godfrey excels in multiple sports at Douglas and proves it by coming out on top at the Junior Olympics. His effort at the regional tournament was typical of the kinds of efforts he has made on and off the field during his high school career. His work this summer on the track has paid off. His special team and receiving efforts were some of the Far West League bests last year and hopefully for Trojan fans he will pick up where he left off. For the rest of the story, click here.

July Events from Coach Taylor

Quarterback and receiver camp on Friday.

Coach Wicks and receiver coaches will be running a clinic for position players on Friday (6:30 on 6-30). Receivers will lift while QBs view films. Receivers will go out after a short lift and work on position work. Be there for the extra time.

Who is lifting?
Check out our attendance sheet to see who is putting in time at the school during the summer. In case you are wondering about the symbols on the sheet, an X indicates a lifting day, a C indicates a Clinic day, XC indicates lifting and clinic, an F indicates a field day, which could be position training, running, or agility work, and XF indicates a lifting and field day. A T will indicate a testing day. If there is an extra X on a day, it means that the athlete got an extra lift in on his own. Reminder- if you are lifting somewhere else (YMCA, gym membership, etc.) let us know. We don't mind crediting you for your time, but we want to be sure you are putting it in so we need some type of record keeping done. We would like you to do our program, so just keep track of it from the internet.

Monday's Clinic (6-19) goes well.
Twenty-six high school athletes attended the June 19 lifting clinic at the DHS weight room. Coach Bayer spent over an hour describing the proper techniques and safety issues of our core and auxiliary lifts. Afterwards 10 lifters stayed to try out the new program while others went up to the field to work on running and toss the football around. Players who attended the clinic were Derrick Farley, Jacob Rondeau, Brett Smith, Darrell Lowe, Greg Malone, Steven Davenport, Matthew Davenport, Nick Watson, Phillip Lilly, Cody Walton, Brody Minshew, Jamie Perry, Drew Corum, Shane Joiner, Mike Marsters, Mike VanDehey, David Froude, Keigan Warren, Derek Marshall, Derek Trotter, Dylan Smith, Jason Waggoner, Daniel Challand, Gabe DeMasters, Robbie Jarvis, and Kamron Bratlie. Several parents also attended as well as five coaches. Most of the players said they would be back on Wednesday for lifting.

Chivalry isn't dead.
