Our Dear Gahmen
A few articles ago, I spoke about the Gahmen's
wanting shops to open later...
How i rant about
the stupid idea....
Coz of more tired workers,
higher overheads, less home time, less babies (contradicting with their "want"
for more babies")
Now they want Childcare
to open later......
This is absolutely
madness, another group of already very tired workers is to be slapped with
longer worker hours.
Note: all those
working in these affected industries are of lower income range.
So is the Gahmen trying to overwork the
already poorly paid people? Are they trying to benefit the highly paid
workers?
Can't the Offices release parents
earlier instead if a conducive family environment and relationships? Won't that
be more excuses for companies to ask Staff to work longer hours
too?
Some
issues:
1. Are we taken as Breeders? We
are told to "make babies" to support aging populations. Yet longer working hours
means less time with Families.
2.
Children at Childcare can be there from as early as 7am to 7pm. 12 hours, how
much time do they have with their parents? Is that healthy Child
Development?
3. You work so hard, long
hours, and reach home tired with the child. Is there good bonding time with the
child? DO YOU WATCH THE CHILD GROW HORIZONTALLY or VERTICALLY? and I mean both
the childcare giver and the parents.
4.
Increasing hours at Childcare means increasing cost of operations, means higher
fees, means longer working hours for parents trying to cope. Also add in the
dangers of fatigue affecting the carecare givers and parents, leading to the
child being neglected for even the brief moment where accidents might occur.
5. If shift work at childcare is said to
be able to help the situation, then calculated this. If a child's placement
would cost around $700(estimated) at the centre and there are 2 teachers
there...with about 30 students. minus overheads and all, each teacher is paid
only approximately $1200-$1500 (this is based on current estimate salary rates
of Childcare teachers). If Shifts is introduced, then we need to employ more
teachers to watch the children. If fees if not increased, the margin of salary
per teacher would have fallen. If fees increased, it means more cost for
parents, that means more expensive to have children. Why would the society want
children then?
6. Wouldn't the Childcare
givers be parents themselves who needs to pick up their own children
too?
For now, I leave it as
that.
If anyone would tell Mr Vivian
Balakrishnan about this posting, I would certainly love to hear what he and the
rest of the cabinet ministers have to say about their "open longer hours" at
various service industry means. You can tomorrow this or whatsoever, I do not
care, but would love to engage in a discussion on
this.
....everyone has only 24
hours per day, to eat, sleep, rest, travel, work......increasing either one of
the portions will throw the balance off.
