CITY OF WHITING
COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
OCTOBER 6, 2008
The Whiting City Council met in regular session on Monday, October 6, 2008, in the council chambers with Mayor Tom Marr calling the meeting to order at 7:00PM. Other visitors present were Ron and Kathy Sanders, Bryan Seward, Brian Kron, Dana Kirby, Jim Anderson, Pat, Barb, Joe Mattingly, Jerry Steffen and Sara Struble. Jeff Sar, city attorney was also present.
Motion by Haack and seconded by Sarrazin to approve the consent agenda which included: minutes of September 8 and September 22, 2008, bills as presented, financial report, and building permits/abatements of Lucas Morton and Lyle Kots. Roll call: Ayes: Sarrazin, Bird, Kepner, and Haack and Pope abstained. Motion carried.

Sara Struble, representing the Monona County Economic Development, addressed the Council and presented the three year summary. Council decided to table their discussion until next month.
Jim Anderson addressed the council on his concerns for residential and commercial ordinances. He also had a nuisance abatement concern.
Jerry Steffen of Steffen Engineering was asked by the Council to look over the two bids from S&H Drilling and B&B Services for the water/sewer project for the Whiting Addition Phase II. Will report back to the city and clerk will schedule a special meeting to discuss this further and any other details.
Mattinglys addressed the council concerning comments made by a city personnel. Also was concerned regarding the nuisance abatement next to their property.
Motion by Pope and seconded by Sarrazin to approve the City of Whiting's “Identity Theft Prevention Program. Roll call: All in favor.
Motion by Haack and seconded by Bird for the City of Whiting to participate in the MidAmerican Energy's “Trees Please!”, Tree-Planting Program. Roll call: Motion carried.
Discussion was held on the Thelander Htg & Cooling service agreement. Will obtain more information and was tabled until next meeting.
Motion by Haack and seconded by Pope to make extra payments when funds are available, with consultation with Williams & Co., on loans with the interest rates being so low. Roll Call vote: All in favor-unanimously.
Discussion was held by the council concerning nuisance abatements and done in a timely manner. Will address this more appropriately at another time.
Reviewing ordinances was tabled until next meeting.
