CITY OF WHITING
COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
JUNE 4, 2007
The Whiting City Council met in regular session on Monday, June 4,
2007, 7:00 PM in the council chambers with Mayor Pro Tem Haack
presiding.
Council Present: Corkery, Jones, Seward
Absent: Mayor Marr, Lyons
Minutes of previous meeting approved.
Barb Hobbs and Meg Polly from the Whiting Library was present and
informed us about applying for a grant to install automatic door
openers.
Motion by Seward and seconded by Corkery to add to 2.5 in the Policy
Book, Temporary or Seasonal Employee, and offer them minimum wage and
would have to apply every year for the position. Motion carried.
Motion by Seward and seconded by Corkery to raise Joseph Mattingly's
wage to $7.25 next pay period. Motion carried.
Motion by Corkery and seconded by Seward to renew Charlie's Lounge
their outdoor service application for July 3 & 4th, 2007. Motion
carried.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Seward to renew beer permit and Sunday
sales permit along with their cigarette permit for Kirby's Market.
Motion carried.
Ordinance 2007-2. An ordinance temporarily closing certain streets in
the city of Whiting on June 30, July 1, July 3 and July 4, 2007.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Seward to pass 1st reading of Ordinance
2007-2. Roll call vote, all in favor.
Resolution 2007-2. A resolution directing the mayor to participate in
the Iowa department of Transportations' small town replacement and
apply to receive traffic control signing materials from the Iowa
Department of Transportation.
Motion by Seward and seconded by Jones to pass Resolution 2007-2. Roll
call vote. All in favor. Skip will evaluate the sign situation and
report to the clerk.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Seward to waive 2nd and 3rd reading of
Ordinance 2007-2. Roll call vote, all in favor.
Tom and Jackie Bleil attended and expressed their interest in the
housing development. Will hold a special meeting soon to show where we
stand and how to pursue with the development.
Ordinance 2007-1. An ordinance amending Chapter 1 of Title IV of the
Whiting municipal code and providing for licensing and control of dogs
and cats.
Motion by Corkery and second by Seward to pass 1st reading of Ordinance
2007-1. Roll call vote. All in favor.
Motion by Seward and seconded by Corkery to approve indemnity agreement
with the Whiting School for the use of a school bus for taking children
to the Onawa swimming pool. There will be a minimum of 5 children on
the bus before the bus will run. Will advertise for a bus driver.
Motion carried.
Rock for the ballfield was tabled until next meeting. Skip is to get
prices for rock or crushed concrete.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Corkery to grant $500.00 to the
Firework's Assn for firework's for the 4th of July. Motion carried.
Bryan Seward was authorized to check out and purchase a weed trimmer
for the cemetery.
Motion by Seward and seconded by Corkery to hire Dean Hightree at
$10.00/hr for the Cemetery position. Motion carried.
Policies tabled until next meeting.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Seward to allow bills. Motion carried.
