CITY OF WHITING

COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

DECEMBER 1, 2008


The Whiting City Council met in regular session on Monday, December 1, 2008, in the council chambers.  Mayor Derr called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with council members Sarrazin, Bird, Pope, Kepner and Haack present.  Also present was Jeff Sar, city attorney.

Motion by Haack and seconded by Pope to approve the consent agenda which included minutes of special meeting, November 24, 2008, bills as presented and November, 2008 financial report.  Motion carried unanimously.

Jeff Johnson gave the police report which included update on inventory, police car, schedule, radar and uniform expense.

Haack reported on police scheduling and discussing police hours for January meeting.

Skip's maintenance report included painting well plants, installing a block heater in the road grader, working on the lots for the housing project.


Motion by Pope and seconded by Sarrazin for Skip to purchase a snowblower up to $900.00.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Haack and seconded by Sarrazin to send M & M Construction a letter stating to get repairs made.  Motion carried unanimously.

The clerk's report consisted of updating more of city ordinances, and working on the 09-10 budget, including salaries for the January 09 meeting.

SIMPCO's emergency plan for Whiting was tabled until next meeting.  Will contact SIMPCO and have a representative present the plan and answer any questions.

Haack reported he will check with the Whiting Housing Corp. if funds are available for the Easton Addition Phase II.

Nuisance abatement were reviewed.

Council agreed to have employee share with the City of Onawa if needed.

Russ Kepner resigned as council member.  Stated family was moving to Onawa.  Motion by Pope and seconded by Sarrazin to fill vacancy on January 5, 2009, 7:00 PM.  Motion carried unanimously.

With no further discussion, meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.
