CITY OF WHITING
COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

SEPTEMBER 8, 2008


The Whiting City Council met in regular session on Monday, September 8, 2008, in the council chambers with Mayor Tom Marr calling the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.  Council members present were Bird, Kepner, Haack, and Sarrazin with Pope absent.

Motion by Bird and seconded by Sarrazin to approve the consent agenda which included minutes of August 4, 2008 meeting, bills as presented and financial report.

Barb Hobbs and Meg Polly, representing the Whiting Public Library, attended presenting the financial report for the 2007/08 fiscal year and reported a memorial to the library of $25,000.00.

Council discussed mowing of the library and at this time will continue as is.

Kathy Harvey and Dave Malloy attended and voiced their concern of a tree situation at 716 Monona.  City will clean up the tree limbs on the ground and council will check on the removal with the tree bids.

Motion by Haack and seconded by Bird to approve $4500 priority removal from Wolf Tree Service.  Also would like to put in $4500.00 in the future budgets for tree removal.

Motion by Haack and seconded by Bird to pass Resolution 2008-7, Approving 2007-08 Road Use Tax Report.  Roll call vote, all in favor.

Monona county Economic Development was table until next month.

William Kennedy from Animal Control was present and answered questions and concerns on animal control.  

Jeff Johnson updated the council on nuisance abatements.

Large dumpsters will be behind City Office October 2, 3 and 4th for residents to dispose of large items.  Appliance tags  must be purchased at city office.

Motion by Haack and seconded by Sarrazin to purchase a water pump from Pollution Control Systems for $8766.00.  Motion carried.  Will purchase parts and repair old one and keep for backup.

Whiting will hostess area clerk's meeting, Tuesday, September 16.

The City of Whiting, Iowa held a public auction of Tracts 3 through 8 of Block Thirty-Two (32) of Easton Addition in the Town of Whiting, Monona County, Iowa.  Tract 5 was sold for the price of $5000.00

Motion by Sarrazin and seconded by Kepner to approve RESOLUTION NO. 2008-03, RESOLUTION PROPOSING TO ACCEPT HIGH BIDS AND SELL LOTS FOUR (4) THROUGH THIRTEEN (13) OF BLOCK THIRTY-TWO (32) OF EASTON ADDITION TO THE TOWN OF WHITING, MONONA COUNTY, IOWA.  Roll call vote, all in favor.  Will hold the Public Hearing Monday, September 22, 2008 at 5:00 PM.
