CITY OF WHITING
COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

AUGUST 4, 2008


The Whiting City Council met in regular session on Monday, August 4, 2008, in the council chambers.  Mayor Tom Marr called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with council members, Sarrazin, Bird, Kepner, Pope, and Haack present.

Motion by Haack and seconded by Pope to approve the consent agenda which included minutes of July 7, 2008 meeting, bills as presented and the financial report.  Motion carried unanimously.

Council would like to get bids for tree removal and trimming and report at next meeting.

Jeff Johnson reported that he had a bid of $1200.00 for a new radar from Radar Road Tech.  Will wait at the present time and continue with the one we have.

Motion by Kepner and seconded by Bird to have the clerk advertise for a public auction for the lots of Whiting Addition Phase II with a starting bid of a minimum of $5000.00 for lots 3, 4, 5, and 6, which will include water and sewer service and with a minimum bid starting at $2,000.00 for lots 7 & 8 with no services installed by the city.  The covenants will remain the same.  The auction for the lots will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 6:00 PM at the site of the lots.  Motion carried, all in favor.

Motion by Haack and seconded by Pope to accept Jarco's bid of $700.00 to repair south wall of city hall.  Motion carried, all in favor.

Motion by Pope and seconded by Sarrazin to accept Northside's bid of $200 to repair the flag pole on main street with the help of MidAmerican Energy.  Roll call vote, all in favor.

Clerk will contact Hall monument and get an estimate for next meeting on cemetery beautification.

Council concerned about animal control charges so will table until next meeting.

Council decided at this time not to contribute to the Youth Assn concrete charges for the ball field.

Haack reported on the Monona County Economic Development.

Sarrazin and Kepner will report to Jeff Johnson on pictures and addresses for the abate nuisances and will report back at next meeting.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.
