Council Proceedings
February 6, 2007

The Whiting City Council met in regular session February 6, 2007, 7:00 PM in the council chambers with Mayor Tom Marr presiding.
Council Present: Bock, Haack, Lyons, Jones, Seward
Absent: None
Minutes of previous meeting approved.
Lynette Corkery from Monona County Economic Development gave an update on several projects they are working on and encouraged to check out their website at www.mcedp.com.
Motion by Haack and seconded by Jones to approve the Tax Abatement for PKD LLC. Motion carried.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Seward to approve the Tax Abatement for Thomas and Rita Baczwaski. Motion carried.
Motion by Seward and seconded by Haack to approve the Tax Abatement for Scott and Paula Harding. Motion carried.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Bock to approve the Tax Abatement for Velma Grell. Motion carried.
Tom Rich Jr. attended and represented the Whiting Youth Assn. for the softball and baseball diamonds. Motion by Haack and seconded by Seward to purchase two loads of aglime for the ball fields. Motion carried.
Mayor advised Council of Shirley Richardson's resignation as City Clerk. Motion by Haack and seconded by Bock to accept resignation. Motion carried.
Motion by Haack and seconded by Seward to have audit with the City Clerk change. Motion carried.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Bock to appoint Karen Handeland as City Clerk. Motion carried.
Motion by Lyons and seconded by Jones to raise the hourly salary of Tracy Bird and Billy Deen to $7.25 effective July 1, 2007. Also, to raise Les George's salary to $8.13 per hour for each department he works effective July 1, 2007. All other salaries will remain the same. Motion carried
Mayor Marr was going to check with Onawa on dog catcher.
Certificates of Deposit and Super Now accounts were discussed and the council approved for the City Clerk to obtain the best interest rate according to our expenditures and revenues.
Council discussed policies.
Motion by Haack and seconded by Jones to grant one day according to years of employment for sick leave. At their anniversary date they will accrue 10 more days with a cap of 50 days. Terry West will start with 26 days, Jeff Johnson will start with 21 days and Karen Handeland will start with 10 days. Motion carried
Policies tabled until next meeting.
Motion by Jones and seconded by Bock to allow bills. Motion carried
