The Delta Project started back around 1998. At the time, my RG500 was well-tuned and made a good spread of power, so of course I decided to toss all that and start developing a new engine: one based on my RG500 bottom end, and mated to a set of TZ250 barrels. The goal was 150 BHP and a usable powerband. Did it all work out?

The Table of Contents to the left may change as you navigate around, but clicking "back to top" ought to get you right back to this exact location.

"Phase one" links you to my original site, detailing the buildup of the engine. That should open in a new window. In fact, this site links together a lot of other stuff I've put up here and there, so lots of things will open in new windows.

After that, I have year-by-year summaries of the challenges we faced as the bike evolved. There's a lot of info in here, and I'll try and make the links to detail sections really visible by making them bold and in color. There's a lot of text, so if you're getting bored of the excruciating details, just look for the blue links and jump off to other diversions.

Building this bike was a real learning experience and it's obvious that it'll be hard to find a point where I can declare it finished. I've had a lot of help from a lot of sharp tuners, machinists, and friends from the RG500 mailing list. The main lesson I've learned is that it pays to have an open mind. Keep analyzing, keep learning, and keep looking for a better way to do things!

The alternative is to become complacent, stagnant, and worst of all, arrogant. And who wants that? 8-)
