The
Finder doesn't work at all well with the iDisk - not only is it slow
but it's decidedly flaky. You can get better results by using a WebDav
program (not FTP) to access the iDisk directly. CyberDuck is free; Transmit
is $29.95 but better. They are slightly faster at transferring files,
and in the rare event that they do crash they won't take the whole
computer with them as the Finder does.
Windows users who are having connection and upload problems might get better results with AnyClient (free), though as I don't have Windows I can't say how well this works.
On
first run Transmit will open with a pane to enter connection details;
above this are tabs marked 'Favorites' and 'Connect'. Click on
'Favorites', then double-click on 'My iDisk' in the list which opens.
You will be asked for permission to access your Keychain so that
Transmit can use your username and paassword.
When it connects you will see the contents of your iDisk in the right
pane. Double-click a folder to open it. Use the drop-down menu above
the pane to move back up the path to the root level. To add a file
simply drag it to the right-hand pane.
Click
the 'Open Connection in the top left-hand corner. In the drop-down menu
at the top of the pane which opens, select 'MobileMe iDisk (WebDAV).
Cyberduck will ask for permission to access your Keychain and add your
details: you may need to add the password manually. When the connection
opens you can see your folders listed and open them by double-clicking.
You can drag files from and to this pane.
