MobileMe has removed the online Safari bookmarks which used to be
available in .Mac. Here is a workaround:
In
Safari 2 or 3, menu File>Export Bookmarks (see below for Safari
1). Choose a name which doesn't
have
any space in it - say bookmarks.html. Save to the Desktop.
Now
post this to your Sites folder* on your Disk. Go to
http://homepage.mac.com/username/bookmarks.html and there are your
bookmarks.
If you want to keep it private, write the following into a plain text
file:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /bookmarks.html
Save
the file as robots.txt and upload it to your Sites folder. Now search
engines will ignore it. You could also give the bookmarks file a
non-obvious name.
If you are still using Safari 1 you will need to enable the Debug Menu
before you can export bookmarks: close Safari, open the Terminal and
type or copy the
following in:
Hit return and restart Safari. Export Bookmarks is now available under
Menu>Debug. Or to avoid using Terminal you could get TinkerTool (free) which will
enable you to make this and other adjustments.
*As
an alternative you could upload it to the Sites Folder within the Web
Folder on your iDisk, in which case the URL would be
http://web.me.com/username - which has the advantage of being shorter.
(You would also upload the robots.txt file to this folder if required.) If you have
Personal Domain set up the URL would additionally be domain.com/bookmarks.html
I
tend to feel that if you are using iWeb to make sites it's probably
best to keep other things out of the Web/Sites folder, but there
shouldn't be any problem as long as you don't name your file index.html
(in which case iWeb would overwrite it).
