THE ARTISTS WAY WORKSHOP has been taught to thousands of people looking for creative direction in their lives. The challenges of creativity are not unique to any particular art form, and this workshop teaches students to re-evaluate their perceptions about issues that have blocked them from fully expressing their talents and realizing their creativity.
Whether its fear, perfectionism, or workaholism, commonalities unite blocked artists. We will use any excuse to keep from living a fulfilled creative life. We surround ourselves with drama and chaos to blur the focus from ourselves and our work. We oversleep, overeat, over-read, watch too much television and talk too much on the phone. We BLOCK, BLOCK, BLOCK our creative impulses until we can find blame and justify our fear of actually living a creative life. Our central fear may be that it is too late and that our talent is gone. We will look for any way to stop the pain.
WEEK 1: THE METHOD OF THE MAGIC. Learn to recognize, nurture and protect your inner artist. You will move beyond pain and creative constriction. Leap and the net will appear!
WEEK 2: LEARN THAT IT IS SAFE TO DREAM. We like to pretend it is hard to follow our hearts dream. The truth is, its far more difficult to avoid it! As we clarify our perceptions, we lose our misconceptions. We arrive at clarity, and clarity creates change.
WEEK 3: RECOGNIZING POSSIBILITIES. As we gain clarity and strength, we free ourselves from our terrible fears of abandonment and the need for constant reassurance. We are then able to live with a greater degree of spontaneity.
WEEK 4: IDENTIFYING INSPIRATION. Art is not about thinking something up, its about getting something down. Instead of straining for creative ideas, we learn to listen!
WEEK 5: PROTECTING YOUR INNER ARTIST FROM HARM. Blocked artists are not lazy, theyre blocked, theyre afraid! The need to be a great artist makes it scary to be an artist at all! Learn tools that help you take creative risks, which give you the courage to create.
WEEK 6: AUTONOMY AS AN ARTIST. As an artist, self-respect comes from doing the work, and creativity requires receptivity, profound trust, and acceptance of ourself as artists. We kill parts of ourselves when we fail to nurture the artist within.
