Antarctica - Part 1

Due to 45 foot seas and gail force winds we had to by-pass Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. We proceeded directly to the northern end of the South Shetland Islands and Elephant Island.

Rev. Neal, out on the promenade deck, dressed for the Antarctic cold ...
... and RuchC, also bundled up, as we approached Elephant Island!
Ice bergs visible in the distance!

RuthC and RevNeal on the lower promenade deck, watching for Elephant Island
The fog was thick as we approach the Island
We were being paced by Penguins ... not sure of the variety.
Finally, the very tip of the shore of Elephant Island appears from the fog!

Ice fields come off the rock and right down to the waters

The bergs get closer on both sides as we pass by the Island.

We can't see much of the height of the mountains of the Island due to the ...
... low clouds. Still, as one person asked me: "If it's Elephant Island ..."
"... then where are all the Elephants?"
