Most recent changes are at the top.

3.0: free upgrade to users who registered after 1 July 2005, else US$9 - released July 2006

What's new in 3.0

2.3: free upgrade to registered users - released January 2006

2.2.2: free upgrade to registered users - released May 2005

What's new in 2.2.2
There are NO new features, only the following three fixes: Under certain conditions resulting in slower events processing, the abbreviation was not being erased and a number of characters equal to the length of the abbreviation were being erased at the end of the expanded text (because the backspaces were being processed AFTER the expanded text). For example, the abbreviation "ret" would give "retRiccardo Etto" instead of "Riccardo Ettore". In my tests, this is now fixed.
Fixed the Export abbreviations function.
Fixed drag & drop into Excluded Apps in TypeIt4Me Preferences.

What was new in 2.2.1
To support Tiger Spotlight, TypeIt4Me now has its own plug-in - TypeIt4Me.mdimporter. Also, when you double-click a TypeIt4Me document in the Finder or in a Spotlight search results window, TypeIt4Me now uses it as its default and opens the Edit Entries dialog to show the abbreviations it contains. Added a new key in Info.plist to list applications in which Carrriage Returns (CRs) need to be posted separately instead of embedded with the rest of the full text. This fixes the problem reported by several users where the Tiger version of Mail does not handle CRs properly. Fixed a problem where an extra backspace was generated when triggering the expansion with ESC.

What was new in 2.2
To celebrate the release of Tiger, TypeIt4Me takes advantage of a Tiger-only feature which allows spell checking as you type in the Edit Entries dialog.

2.1: free upgrade to registered users - released April 2005

What's new in 2.1

TypeIt4Me no longer distinguishes between TSM-aware and non-aware applications. The list that used to be called TSM Apps in previous versions of TypeIt4Me's Preferences is replaced by Excluded apps, whose NEW purpose is to allow users to permanently disable TypeIt4Me in specific applications by drag & dropping their icon in this list.
TypeIt4Me still takes advantage of TSM-savvy applications by testing for the document you type in to be a TSM document and if it is, expansion occurs MUCH faster than in non-TSM documents. For example, Appleworks does NOT use TSM documents, while the new Pages application does and the difference is VERY noticeable!

The Clipboard is no longer used to place the expanded text into the document by issuing a Paste command, except in six applications: Eudora, PowerPoint, Excel, AlphaX, Script Debugger & Mozilla Thunderbird.
TypeIt4Me should therefore no longer interfere with Shadowclipboard and any other Clipboard management apps, except when expanding in one of the six above-mentioned applications.
Thanks to this change, TypeIt4Me now expands in Adobe InDesign and QuickBooks.

Added support for embedding a backspace in the expanded text, by using the @$08 syntax as in the OS 9 version. This is specifically useful if you want to define g to expand to ing and have it attach itself to the preceding word. Example: @$08ing

If you want the trigger not to be appended on a case by case basis, you can now type a ` (grave accent) as the last character in the expanded text definition of any abbreviation for which you don't want the trigger appended.
For example, if you define app to expand to application` (note the ` sign at the end of application), then the trigger will not be appended when app is expanded to application.

The abbreviation buffer is now reset to zero when the command key is pressed. Therefore, pressing/releasing the command key just before typing an abbreviation should always result in the abbreviation expanding on first try.

Bugs fixed in 2.1

The code that checks if a user is registered now waits for the user to be logged in and thus no longer says Dear System Administrator while the login window is still showing.

The annoying delay after expansion that would cause fast typists to lose one or two characters after expansion is gone.

Fixed a bug where triggering the expansion with a hard space (option-space) would cause the backspaces to erase entire words to the left of the cursor (one whole word per character in the abbreviation). This is because many word processors interpret option-backspace to mean "backspace over the entire word to the left of the cursor".

2.0: free upgrade to registered users - released September 2004

What's new in TypeIt4Me 2.0:

1 - new features:

A- Default file:
This hierarchical menu will show you a list of the most recently opened TypeIt4Me abbreviation files (possibly only one file until you open new ones). Picking one from the menu will make it the new default file in use in all applications, except those associated to a specific file as per point B

B- File for [appname]:
This hierarchical menu will be identical to the one in A above. Picking a file from this menu, however, will associate it with the current application (that is, the application whose name appears next to the Apple menu and in the phrase When in [application] use. If you see "File for TypeIt4Me", then TypeIt4Me has become the frontmost application (but its name won't show next to the Apple because it is a background process). In this case, click again on the application you wish to associate a file to and its name should appear just after File for . Notice that a checkmark will appear next to the file you associate with this application. Selecting the file with the checkmark will toggle the association OFF.

C- when expanding in applications NOT included in the TSM Apps list, TABS are now properly sent to the application, thus allowing a user to enter login-TAB-password in one go in web forms.

D- embedded cursor move commands in the format @$1C for left, @$1D for right are now parsed properly and cursor is moved (again ONLY in applications NOT included in the TSM Apps list). Note that the hex must be typed in UPPERCASE, i.e. 1C not 1c.

E- allow user to REPLACE existing abbreviation when adding a new one. This USED to be the case in the OS 9 version but not in X until now, i.e. You would have to first go delete the existing abb, then do the AddNewEntry again.

F- added Escape as a trigger

G- added support for @@i, @@b syntax for issuing cmd-i and cmd-b menu commands. This feature will ONLY work if application is NOT in the TSM Apps list.
Usage example: @@ithis is in italics@@i and @@bthis in bold@@b then back to normal.

Added support for international localization, including partial translation into Italian, German and Spanish. Fully translated French version available as separate download in the name of Mactylo.

2 - bug fixes:

finally found a fix for the infamous problem where instead of the expanded abbreviation SOME users would SOMEtimes get the contents of the Clipboard

fixed bug that would prevent Eudora from "remembering" open windows and their positions

fixed bug that would prevent TypeIt4Me from being in the menu bar after a restart under 10.2.x. NB This is only fixed for users who choose the US keyboard flag. However, the bug is NOT present under 10.3.x (Panther).

Fixed bug where pressing TAB when in the Find dialog of BBEdit, with "Don't append trigger" checked and TAB NOT a trigger, would not place the cursor in the next field, but instead added a TAB char in the current field.

Fixed a problem where the alert that comes up when calling "Add an entry" with an empty clipboard would keep coming up on itself repeatedly if user kept calling "Add an entry".

Fixed bug where you could only bring the Edit entries dialog window back to front by clicking on its title bar (can now click anywhere on it to bring to front).

Fixed bug where with MSWord in the TSMApps list, the text being typed in the inline buffer would end up at the new cursor position when pressing one of the arrow keys

Reset input buffer on mousedown even when application is not in TSMApps list. This should somehow reduce the chances of abbreviations not expanding or expanding in the wrong place, that is, expanding where the cursor had been placed by the mousedown, instead of at the original place where the abbreviation was typed.

added code to make TypeIt4Me "FileVault friendly"
