LInk Ahead
This blog went offline for a long time due to
problems after Katrina. In the meantime I moved over to a blog on iWeb. I found an archive of this blog and
reposted it and now I can link the old with the new.

This:Day Sail
Over the 4th of July weekend Geo and
his family joined me and mine for a short day sail. We didn't know then that
this would be our last shared memory of the Coast before Katrina. I did a little
montage that weekend and put a minor-key song on it.

Blown Barges
The beachfront from the Biloxi Yacht
Club east is perhaps the most stunning example of the power of the storm. Three
enormous barges torn loose from moorings and left north of Highway 90, one which
smashed the corner of the Tivoli Hotel and took out the Biloxi Yacht Club. There
is no substitute for simply going in and seeing it for yourself.

Coast Scenes B(efore)K(atrina)
John
Whelan sent several wonderful
waterfront scenes. Two were in areas struck by Katrina, New Orleans by the
Greenville bend, and the Gulfport commercial harbor.

Lori's Story - Katrina Whacks an Artist
[reproduced with permission from Ellis
Anderson]
Artist Lori Gordon
wants to go home. But since hurricane Katrina upended her life, all that remains
of the house she cherished for twelve years is a battered slab of concrete and
the tile kitchen floor. Gordon returns to the property most days, salvaging what
little she can find of her belongings. She’s developed what she refers to
as an extraordinary attachment to the colorful tile floor she created and put
down herself years before. Each morning, she sweeps the floor with meticulous
care, cleaning the last vestige of her home. “I went out a few days
ago,” she says. “The insurance adjuster had finally come by and left
me a note. He did it with black spray paint on that beautiful clean tile
floor.”
