February Roundup

February was a busy month for me. I told my parents I'm going to ask my girlfriend to marry me, I got the ring, and I'm going to ask her parents this weekend. I submitted a paper to a conference and have a footing on what will probably become my dissertation. And in between all of that I managed to write some software and take some pictures.

If you tried to visit Dsktp Cty over the last couple weeks it probably didn't work. That's because iDisk/Dreamweaver/Galerie hate me. Dreamweaver couldn't seem to finish an upload to my Website, iDisk kept letting copies last forever, and Dreamweaver kept crashing but staying in the Dock, even after a force quit. But, I finally managed to work through it all to bring you five new desktop pictures.

I also made some software this month. After my initial release of Mori Math, I spent the next few weeks adding features that should have been in the initial release but left out because I wanted a working product as soon as possible so I could take proper notes. Release 2 has bug fixes, the ability to render/unrender all the math in an entry, and allows you to set the LaTeX templet used to render math. If you use Mori, check it out.

Finally, I released a set of AppleScript scripts for Mori. My favorite is bar-none the script to generate Mori entries from e-mail messages. I have a rule set in Mail to run this script when I receive mail from my cell phone. It then creates a new entry in my Mori Inbox and deletes the mail message. When I get to my computer, I then have all the notes I made to myself while I was away. This is a great improvement over my old system, where I kept notes in Word documents on my phone (a Treo 650) and occasionally remembered to look at them and integrate them with the notes on my computer. Even if you don't use Mori, I suggest you try something similar with your note-taking application of choice.

That's it for this month. Hopefully next month will be more productive and more blogged.
