Alpha Centauri Found
At the start of 2005 I started looking in earnest
for a copy of Alpha
Centauri. It took me a year and a half, but I finally tracked it down
on eBay at a reasonable price (the Mac version is more expensive than the
Windows), and thanks to a Carbonization patch someone created, it runs pretty
well under Mac OS X. Aside from my lack of time to play it, I'm glad to have
it. In my opinion it's the best game in the Civilization series that I've
played. Back when it was first released I played the demo dozens of times, but
never actually owned the game. I loved it so much, though, that once I felt
like I had played-out Civ III, and since I can't run Civ IV on my computer, I
decided it was time to go back to an old favorite. Many of my favorite features
from Alpha Centauri have made a return in Civ IV, so I'm excited for the chance
to play it when I eventually get a new computer. In the mean time, good old
SMAC can keep me company (when I have time for it).
