The Pink Panther
Abstract:
Keeping from loneliness.
Body:
Sarah went on a family vacation to Vegas over
Memorial Day weekend, so I was all alone in Winter Park. To get away from my
own moping I decided to get out of the house for a bit. I had dinner at Sonic
and then saw The Pink
Panther at a local dollar theater. Before the
movie started they theater played movie music and show slides on the screen. To
my surpise they slipped in an orchestral rendetion of the Zelda theme music.
Which got me to thinking, they should make a Zelda
movie.
It doesn't need to strictly
follow any of the games, but it should focus around Link saving Zelda from
Gannon who needs her to form the triforce. Lots of action, a little romance,
and plenty of built in market. But now to
The Pink
Panther.
I'm
a fan of the Peter Sellers/Blake Edwards films in the series. A lot of the
genius in those films comes from Sellers's performance, so I was curious to see
how Steve Martin would do in the roll. Overall I'm pleased with Martin's
performance, so long as I don't compare Sellers and Martin. Each has a
different style and it's reflected in their portrayal of Clouseau, but they are
connected by their over-the-top comedy in a way that makes Martin the only
living actor who could probably successfully take on the roll. I was only
really disappointed when the film made Clouseau aware of his own failings and
gave Clouseau an exceedingly predictable and shallow love interest. This pulled
the film down, which is a shame because it was otherwise true to the
concept.
So it could have been better,
but I think fans will be pleased with the result.
