Biography of a G-Man

Stress the Little Things

In 1997 I read Orson Scott Card's Children of the Mind. Some of the characters and I shared a trait: obsessive-compulsive behaviors. After some research I realized that I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

My OCD isn't classically strong, but it has a constant effect on my behavior and thinking. I don't want to give all the details here, but I will say that none of my friends noticed until I told them. If you met me without reading this page you probably wouldn't know that I have OCD. Like many adult OCD patients, I have excellent control and can decide how much I want to reveal in public.

OCD is an interesting disorder to have. On one hand, I'm overly anxious and slow because I waste some of every second watching for bad things. On the other, I'm a natural perfectionist and capable of strongly focusing my attention. Like many OCD patients, I'm not interested in treatment. I want to live my life like everyone else, only most cautiously.
