I love it when a plan comes together

I sewed my Rogue up yesterday. I was in this big rush to try and finish her before the party at Lettuce Knit last night so that I could show off a bit. That wasn't going to happen, though. There was just too much left to do. I decided that I would wear her over to the party for warmth (it's a very warm cardigan) ... even though she had all sorts of strings hanging. I figured I could do some finishing at the party. Anyway, I was just about in the door, when I noticed that Jenna, a.k.a. Rogue's designer was inside! There was no way I could go in with an unfinished product like that, and feel comfortable, so I whisked around the corner, stuffed Rogue in my bag, and then went in to the party like nothing happened. What a Bridget Jones moment. I guess that was silly of me ... but sometimes you gotta do that for peace of mind.

The party at LK was totally fun. I didn't get any pictures, but Aven and Kelly did. It looks like Kelly even managed to get one of me even though I was tucked in the corner while the cameras were out. Hmmm ... my glasses were on my head then and I haven't seen them since! Oh well, I've got another pair. Anyway, I haven't felt so stress free in quite a while, so it was a really nice treat. Was good to sit and chat with Laura too as end of term time gets kind of crazy, so it's been a while since I've said hi.

One of the fun things about the evening for me was meeting Stephanie, who is just as funny in person as she is in writing. She imparted some knitting wisdom about how to measure a person's head for a hat without letting them know that you want to knit them a hat. However, I think it's possible that she wanted to see 10 people slap their hands on their foreheads and look kind of dorky. :) Well, she probably didn't mean that, but it did look pretty funny when everyone stuck the palms of their hands on their foreheads!

While I was sewing up Rogue's sleeves, I was reminded of how much I love the way set-in sleeves come together. To be honest, it's only the second time I've sewn in set in sleeves, but it's a cool thing. I remember sewing sleeves in with a sewing machine, and that can be a fiddly thing, trying to gather the sleeve, but not so much that they pucker ... it was always kind of my favourite sewing thing, though. Anyway, knitted set-in sleeves are kind of like that, except you can do it all really neatly because knitted fabric has its own natural stretch. It's just cool how you think, 'Oh man, this totally isn't going to work ... I've totally screwed it up.' and then it works (more or less).

Finally, I'd like to thank Megan for a great year of knitting and stuff. I wasn't knitting a year ago when she opened Lettuce Knit, but when I did start knitting around the end of February this year, Lettuce was pretty much the first place that I went to for my yarn needs. I didn't really know what I was doing, but Megan was so helpful, and the store was so close to work that I couldn't help but learn to love the craft. Even when I had some pretty wacko knitting ideas, Megan was supportive. How often have I had a totally aggravating day at work and so I've gone out to Lettuce just to relax. I dunno ... more than a few times a week sometimes! Anyway ... congratulations on the first anniversary, and here's to many more.
