It's not all sweetness and lightI've finally found the undercurrent of the online
knitting community (thanks Lisa) where people go for a little bit of a rant. I
had wondered whether everyone out there was just nicer than me, or what. Amit,
if you're reading this, it ain't all perfect here in the world of knitting.
Nope, we've got a whole list available for people who want to rant, called
knitflame. Now, I feel as if I am taking my life into my hands even speaking of
this thing, but you know if I put this blog on the web, then I think I have to
be prepared to take the consequences. There's always someone out there ready to
flame, so one can't cry when it happens. It's the way of the net. I don't
think that many people actually read this anyway. Even my parents
don't.
I know that I'm the person who posted 'mean people suck' so one might wonder why I'd even check out a list called knitflame I still think that mean people suck, but let me explain about that. First, when I said that I've never met a knit object I couldn't say something good about I'd like to plead inexperience. I admit that I haven't been knitting that long, and so while that statement might have been true a while ago, it's not the case now. Second, that post was actually in response to something that happened where one person, instead of criticising someone's work, criticised the person. I really didn't think that was cool. One thing that freaks me out about the list is how many names I recognise. I mean, some of them are people that I've met who seemed so mild-mannered. Now I'm afraid that they might have turned around and mentioned my silliness. I'll just enjoy the lurking. You know, though, sometimes you do need to just vent about stuff. I get the impression from the initial rules that I got that the list is supposed to be that place. So, I am curious about that. Oh yeah, on a ranty note, I need to bitch about something I saw on craftster months ago. It was so horrible that it's kept me off the site altogether. I figure that everything else must be at the same level of inanity. Someone posted that they made this wonderful apron out of a tea towel with some bias tape sewn along one end for the tie and weren't they so clever. Hello?!? Isn't that a project that someone in 3rd grade might do? This is not an impressive project. It's not worthy of the name project. Man, if you can't sew, don't post about sewing, and send me your sewing machine because I need one and you maybe don't. Just wanted to rant about that. Posted: Thu - November 11, 2004 at 12:01 AM | |
