What is the meaning of
Hanukkah? It is about a miracle, but it is not about the Temple, nor
how long the oil burned there in Maccabean times. The miracle is
happening now. My Uncle Arthur Oscar Green, told me about an
essay he wrote when he went to Harvard in the early part of the
twentieth century when there were few Jews in attendance. The essay was
about the meaning of Hanukkah, and his professor approved. The
miracle of Hanukkah is not about an event that happened over 2000 years
ago. The miracle is actually that we have lit menorahs since then, and
that we are still lighting the Hanukkah menorah. Join me, and let's
keep that sacred chain of lights and thoughts burning both today and
tomorrow, in our windows and in our hearts. Now, enjoy the delights of
Hanukkah!
