Single player Guidelines

Multi-Pass! - Some ideas for 'Team Pop-Pop'

  • Players divide into two teams of roughly equal skill levels.
    • The two teams can mark themselves with different brackets round their names
    • Each player on each team has three 'lives'
    • If there is an odd number of players, the team with the smaller number of players can allocate the three extra lives equally among them as they see fit [i.e. no more than one extra per person, unless they are teams of two!]
    • The number of lives left should be stated after the name [3,2,1, or 0 = out ]
  • The top half [rounded down] of the players in the list play each other
    • Games are played with just 2 rounds on expert [ensures quick turn-around since people will be waiting]
    • The loser loses a 'life'
  • The winner then plays the next person down the list in the opposing team not currently in a game, and continues to do so until either
    • beaten
    • wraps back round to players already played
      • note that order is always strictly descending - if you miss people out because they are playing, and then wrap back - too bad.
  • A player who loses his/her last life is then out, and takes no further active part
  • The number of active games must stay at between half the players in the larger team and the total left in the smaller team [well, you couldn't have more than that anyway!]
  • A team wins when all the players in the opposing team are out

Variations and “Keeping Everyone Under Control”™

Washu and the Gang
  • Possible Variants to be mixed and matched as players wish before start:
    • Each game could be one, two or three rounds
    • Each player on a team could pick a unique pop, and stick with that one
    • Handicap in favour of a player on their last life playing someone who isn't
    • Always handicap against the current winner
    • If you were on a 'win' streak [i.e. already won a game], you don't lose a life when beaten [similar to the "must serve to score" rules in many games].
  • Demo players want to play?
    • I have no problem with demos - you should still play expert though, time-limits shouldn't expire with just two rounds, but if they do, re-challenge
  • You cannot connect to someone?
    • see main guidelines page
    • just skip someone you cannot connect to - if just two people who cannot connect are left, each should substitute one of their team-mates to play instead
  • What about wait times?
    • Even in all vs all mode, wait times can easily be 10 mins between games [especially if you're unlucky to have an odd number of players]
    • I've done my best to sort it out so that nobody should be waiting more than that here either [unless they've been knocked out, but same goes for knockout tree there too!]
    • However, [and especially as people get knocked out] I'd suggest the following:
Download the free IRC client Colloquy or any other you may already have/want, and log on to "irc.ambrosiasw.com". Join "#pop-pop". Best thing since pop-pop doesn't have a chat-room, and just keep the game windowed so you can see what's going on. We can all brag about out exploits and cheer on our teem-mates:-)
  • Follow the usual good sportsmanship and etiquette described here
