Folding the tent: Urschleim slouches on

So long, Lifli, and thanks for all the bugs.

The latest iteration of the obscure blogging software used to create and maintain "Slouching Toward Urschleim" has not worked out, and so with no hard feelings I am moving today to a somewhat better-supported authoring environment. This derelict site will remain here indefinitely, I suppose, but future entries will appear in the Google-owned "blogspot" environment. The new address:

http://urschleim.blogspot.com/

Leave a comment in the "Urschleim Reborn" entry of 120807 (happy sixty-sixth birthday to R. McCloud, now I think of it) if you should reach the new site through this last gasp of the old.

I'm outta here.

Regarding Lifli

Credit where due

This small software house way out in India makes the blogging software I use to fling Slouching toward Urschleim out to its half-dozen ardent readers around the world. The end product is not particularly sexy, but the tech support from what I suspect may be a one-man operation is always reliable, and I'd like to pay tribute to the Onlie True Begetters of this site. Lifli's responsiveness has likely purchased my custom for another year.

Won’t you change platforms and then...

you may never want to change platforms again

Just a maintenance note...Old Paint, my trusty old B&W tower, is being pensioned off, and I’m moving my applications over to a nice new iMac (imagine an iPod the size of a small parking spot). Owing to limitations of the old box the migration has not been as seamless as advertised, but I seem to have moved my major apps after just a couple of days, and i may have even solved the vexing problem of ad-deranged formatting. We'll see.

Squeezed by commerce

Ah, these Faustian pacts work as advertised, don’t they?

So I agree to allow Google onto my little-traversed blog, and it's like inviting Tony Soprano to have a share of the business: suddenly my content is squeezed into a quarter of its former horizontal space.

You seven regular readers had better be prepared to exercise your little thumbs big time.

Edit: Snuff bottles? Snuff bottles???
