John Mueller's BBQ
1917 Manor Road - Austin, Texas - (512)236-0283
The home of the best BBQ in Austin, Texas. An unassuming, yet
colorful Texas themed building sits to the east of the intersection of Manor
Road and 26th St. a few blocks east of IH-35. Inside is the quintessential
small town BBQ joint just a few blocks from the heart of Austin. You could
hear the roar a UT football game wafting out of Memorial Stadium from the
tiny parking lot adjacent the business.
The classic BBQ setup. Stand in line and order at the counter.
A nice piece of crusty black brisket end freshly cut will be slapped down
on the butcher paper for you to sample as they take your order. Get your ice
cooled drinks while you wait. The hard part is choosing your fare. Brisket,
pork loin, pork ribs, prime rib, chicken, sausage, and a host of other specials
complicate your decision. All are served on butcher paper. Two types of sauce
(sweet or spicy) are available as well as the requisite onions and pickles.
All the classic sides are also available.
A simple outside deck for use in the cooler months of Texas.
The pits are inside the room behind the burglar bars. Note the water bag hanging
from the eves. It is used as a fly repellent. The theory is that the fly sees
an enlarged reflection of itself and is scared off, never to return. There
are no flies on this food you may be assured!
