Tracey Heyes
Tracey Heyes has had two highly successful parallel careers: one as a well known ceramic sculptor, and the other as a installation artist of large scale public artworks. She has won awards and critical acclaim in both these spheres of activity.
Tracey's sculptural ceramics are focussed on the female form and dress as a metaphor for the human condition. Her handbuilt sculptures have developed and changed over the years and have also included wall sculptures. In recent years she has made a body of 'cushion' pieces from cast elements. The theme of these is still involved with the condition of women's lives in western society and iconography in western art. Her latest work incorporates glass elements with laser printed photographic images.
Among the numerous awards she has won are a Residential Scholarship in Banff Canada. The Peace Gardens project, commissioned by Sheffield City Council and for which she designed the stone mosaic and central water fountain, has received a number of awards including The Natural Stone Award, The Civic Trust Award, and a RIBA Award.
Tracey's work has featured in a number of recent publications including The Human Form in Clay, Jane Waller, Crowood Press (1999), The Figure in Fired Clay, Betty Blandino, 2001 (A&C Black) and Ceramic Figures, Michael Flynn, A & C Black (2002)
