Keiko Nakamura
Following her initial training in Fine Arts in Tokyo, Keiko Nakamura did a Degree in Ceramics a t the Central School of Art and Design in London. Since then Keiko has shown in numerous exhibitions in England and Japan. Keiko has never stood still as an artist, never wishing to repeat a safe formula. During her career, her work has had frequent radical changes from one period to another, thus continually testing her artistic imagination and technical skills.
Her present work, packs great punch into a seemingly modest form. She has achieved a miraculous kaleidoscope of colour in her new indoor/outdoor bowls and birdbaths, the result of at least three and sometimes four firings. She also adds bits of broken glass to glazes to impart a dense gritty quality to the surface of her forms.
Besides her own artistic output, Keiko has worked in stage design and performance. This includes work with Lindsay Kemp in 1977 (Stage painting for Ballet Rambert Design); with Lumiere & Son, in a Circus tour of Edinburgh, Holland and Germany; a performance with Joy Lemoin called ?Spring Women? (London / Cardiff) in 1982, and an appearance in Sally Potter?s film Gold Diggers.
