| The Maine Pegmatite Workshop has chosen Poland Mining Camps (PMC) as their venue because of its size, facilities and charm. What better location to study Pegmatites for seven days then in an environment and facility dedicated to the geology and its minerals in Maine. At the center of the PMC Complex is the PMC Pavilion. It will be the hub of activity for the Workshop. Additionally, all meals, functions and socializing will take place here. In the same building is an After Hours Room, where guests can meet and talk as late as you want, without interrupting your cabin mates. Additionally, non-alcoholic beverages will be available by the honor system within a fridge located here. All of the classroom sessions will take place in the Pavilion. In the Pavilion are displays of minerals from the various quarries you will visit and microscopes for checking minerals. There is even a small library containing published information about Maine and copies of magazines. Additioanlly, all of our Functions will take place here, as well as most meals. | ||
| Rough Schedule of the Week The Workshop commences with our Arrival Day, Friday, May 25, 2012. You may arrive anytime during the day and settle in. For those eating at PMC, supper is at 6:00 PM. Then everyone is invited to an informal reception that evening at 7:30. Those not lodging or eating at PMC are entitled and encouraged to join us at the reception, and indeed all social events during the week at no additional charge. The Workshop Classes start on Saturday, May 26 , 8:00 AM and will end on Friday, June 1, 5:00 PM. The Workshop Field-Study Classes are scheduled for each afternoon and we will car pool caravan to these locations. There are Rules & Regulations at each location, and your guide/instructor will detail anything specific each day to make the trip a success. If there is time at these locations, and with the permission of the quarry owner, you will be able to collect mineral specimens for your own collections. | ||
| Lodging At Poland Mining Camps, you may opt to lodge right on campus. There are cabins available for those wishing to stay right there during the Workshop. Lodging is communal in nature and individuals will have to share a cabin with others. The seven cabins have a maximum capacity of 15 people (1 double, plus 1 to 3 single beds per cabin). If you are a couple and want a double bed, please register early to insure a double is available. If you want to share a cabin with a friend(s), we should be able to guarantee you one of the cabins if you all register early! The cabins will fill fast, so make your reservations as soon as you can! If the available lodging at Poland Mining Camps becomes filled, or you want to stay elsewhere, there are locale Motels, Inns or Campgrounds within driving distance. You will be directly responsible for your own lodging expense in these cases, but we can help you make reservations. If you live locally or within commuting distance to Poland Mining Camps and do not want to lodge or eat there, you can still register just for the Workshop. Whatever your lodging and meals plans are, there are Workshop Pricing Packages to fill your needs. | ||

Transportation ![]() Transportation to and from Poland Mining Camps and the Daily Field Trip is the responsibility of each registrant. A four wheel drive vehicle or regular truck is preferred, but there should be enough vehicles among the registrants so we can all car pool and caravan to each Field Trip locale. Still, if you can, come prepared to drive yourself. At certain locations, we will have to ferry everyone up the mountain to the quarry. If you are coming by airplane, Portland, Maine is the closest airport. You will need to rent a car or take a taxi to get to Poland Mining Camps. However, we may be able to pick you up if possible ... talk with Ray. | ||
| Emergency Contacts We have asked that you submit two contacts in case of emergency. There is space for this information on the Registration Form. Try to select two people who do not live at the same household. A name with a phone number, and the relationship is the minimum information we need. | ||
| Optional Last Weekend If you would like to stay on at Poland Mining Camps the last Saturday night, there are special pricing Package available for the extra day. We will schedule an event for Saturday, but subject to change as we get closer to the Workshop.
