![]() Our History and Tradition Stanley Perham founded Perham's in 1919, filling the shop with locally-mined minerals and gems. Over the years, Stanley involved himself in the actual mining and recovery of valuable minerals and gemstones, while operating the store with his wife Hazel at his side. Many of the gemstones he recovered were even cut and placed into unique jewelry right at the shop. Some of the best minerals specimens he collected were placed into a Museum right in the store, so that "everyone could appreciate the beauty that came from the mountains of Maine." As the years passed and the shop grew, it has become a national landmark featured in The Reader's Digest and was honored in 1998 and 2000 as an "Editor's Pick" in Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide to New England. Jane Perham, a respected gemologist, author and historian, has worked in the Store since her childhood. Expanding the initial business into a unique fine jewelry and gift establishment, while still maintaining the mineral offerings, she continues the business tradition established by her parents, Stan and Hazel Perham. Today the business has international recognition, attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year. That is why we say with pride, ![]() |
