| Waisanen Quarry Mineral List Greenwood, Oxford County, Maine (Open to the General Public, except during active mining.) Situated within 25 yards of the Tamminen Quarry, the Waisanen was first opened as a feldspar mining operation, and was a productive mine for many years. Feldspar was the main commercial product, but all of the mining was straight down in a hole and eventually the cost and trouble of mining this way ceased operations. Circa 1965, Frank Perham mined this pit-type quarry for mineral specimens and discovered the specimens displayed below. He also found elbaite and many more minerals. Today the large pit is full of water, but some of the recently mined ledge on the side is still workable and the mine dumps are extensive. Last mined in the 90's, it probably will be mined again in the future by our own Frank Perham.
