Ski Pike Quarry Mineral List
a.k.a - Cobble Hill
Cobble Hill, West Paris, Oxford County, Maine

(Definitely Closed to the General Public)

Started in the late 1920's by a local farmer and landowner named Ski Pike, the initial mining was performed by Bell Minerals, mining for the feldspar content of the pegmatite. Later on, Ski Pike mined the location also for the feldspar and other minerals located here. Ski Pike found a tourmaline pocket full of pink crystals to 2 cm thick. The pocket was 14 inches long and also contained some light green gem crystals of elbaite. There are two quarries at this locale, historically only known as Cobble Hill. In the 1987-89's, two hobbiest miners worked the lower of the two pits, and in honor of the land owner who visited their work often, changed the name of that pit to The Ski Pike Quarry.
